my overall opinion of Superchips

it sucks... it's a piece of crap...

I started out with version 1.04 of the software, as I purchased it from another member (that transaction is not in question this is about Superchips)

With 1.04 none of the features except raising the Speedo limit would work.

So I updated it 1.06

then I could get Paddle-hold to work, but not reduced torque management and raised shift points

Paddle-Kick gave error message (not available with your vehicle or some such thing)

ok then came 1.07.

Now I have raised shift points and torque management, but still no Paddle-Kick.

-------

So I traded TCM's with another member that wanted his paddle hold to work like mine (mine actually was holding the gear and bouncing off the rev limiter)

Now with this new TCM, Paddle-Hold, Paddle-Kick and the Stock setting all behave exactly the same, Paddle-Hold does not hold the gear, and raised shift points is gone again, Regardless of setting the car now SLAMS into gear at 5200rpm, Without the S/C it shifts at 5500rpm and it is very smooth with the S/C it slams the gear and the car lurches. Also I notice surging problems sitting at red lights, like the car is trying to engage the clutch and the car rocks and surges.

I also have noticed a significant reduction in MPG regardless of the S/C settings, I'm getting 9 - 11 MPG. Yesterday I went completely back to stock and in a 200 mile drive I jumped from 11mpg to 18mpg...

A $400 toy and the only advantage I have seen is the ability to raise the Speedo Limiter, Big Farking Deal I don't drive over 125 anyway.

A total waste of Time, Energy and Money S/C is a complete piece of crap and useless to me.

What is your TCM and ECM numbers? Maybe you need to get flashed by the dealer. Some of the older ECM and TCM's don't play well with SC.
My Aug 2004 built C had ECM 04896415AC TCM 04692390AC.
I got flashed in early Dec 2006 and they are now ECM 04896415AK TCM 04692390AG.

My TCM and ECU are up to date, already been thru that with Superchips, it didn't fix the problem.

and JonW verified with his Starscan that I am up to date, so that is not the issue, the issue is the S/C is a POS.

Not discounting what you believe, but...

That's why I believe adjustable programmers should really be used for controlling new engine mods like cams. Also allows a user to 'tweak' their settings at the track for superior adjustments. Again, for internal engine mods.

Sorry to hear you had such a $hitty time with your SC tuner. So far I've have nothing but good things to say about mine. I'm running ver. 1.07.

The 91 octane setting definately gave my car more kick! It pulls way harder above 3000rpm all the way to a raised shift point.

When it shifts gears it does it with authority, very firm, and fast. As for the surging problem you describe, I haven't experienced it with mine.

And as for the Mpg issue, I haven't paid much attention to it, as I am always Slamming the pedal now. But saying that, I don't find myself filling up anymore than I used to.

Hope you have better luck with your next Performance mod.

I agree about the attitude of Super Chips, that if it does'nt work, the customer needs to do something to make it work. I was in on the original group buy, but my car ran like crap (surging) after installing any tune. Superchips quickly told me I needed to have the latest flashes. My dealer said no. I thought I bought a paper weight until my car developed a serious reverse shudder and lo and behold, got flashed by the dealer. Now my SC works great. I have version 1.0 and while I don't benefit from the latest features, my car runs fantastic. I love my flashpac. Superchips.........the product is flawed in my opinion. Too many problems for too many people. Mine, however, after the original issue, is a tremendous improvement over stock.

I just went through every single setting on my Flashpack;

Paddle-Kick
Paddle-Hold
Stock

New TCM:
All of these behave the exact same way which means that the S/C tuner is not changing the stock program.

Old TCM:
Paddle Hold works as described
well in Stock mode my car works the same way so I don't need the S/C for this.

Reduced Torque;

works fine on my old TCM I can spin the wheels from a dead stop with or without the ESP turned off

Doesn't do **** with the new TCM

Raised shift points:

Old TCM would shift at or around 6000-6200rpm

New TCM shifts at 5500 every gear

Raised Speedo setting:

Old TCM - Nada car hit rev limiter at 125
New TCM - Nada car hit rev limiter at 125

--

so basically even though the S/C is saying that it is programming new stuff, it isn't doing squat, the stock program and the S/C programs are exactly the same.

So basically I have a $400 paperweight.

Which is now for sale....

a buddy of mine has an early build 2005 Magnum 5.7L and is using the Hypertech Programmer III, so I am going to get with him and see if it does anything different.

If not then I am going to say that these tuners for our cars are nothing but snake oil...They don't do **** and they cost too much.

Sorry you’re having this experience. You’re a very knowledgeable member when it comes to electronics on our cars so I’m sure you’ve studied it quite thoroughly. I hope you find results with your buddy.

Marc - I appriciate you posting your opinion. With the price hike, I think I'll just wait and do a B&G flash after I get my exhaust done. Thanks.
