SRT8 wiring diagram needed for custom tuning

As you probably know, the thing I am most disappointed with in terms of the SRT8 is lack of tuning ability that we face when modifying any part of the engine.

Anyway I decided to get the ball rolling and emailed **, a company that had previously done the programming on other cars for me with great success. Here is what they replied.

Hello Daniel,
I do not believe that anyone has tried fitting a ** ECU to one of these cars before so I do not have any information for them. I would guarantee that the Chrysler will be a much more complicated car to run when compared to the simple Commodores. An ** would almost certainly be necessary.

What we would first need to find out is how the engine is run, what type of sensors it has and what other devices are need to be controlled.

I must warn you that if you decide to go ahead with an installation through us there may be a fair bit of development needed. The biggest problem we face these days is that the factory ECU can usually not be removed from the car as it controls many more things apart from the engine, keeping this ECU happily controlling everything else and not the engine can be quite an "interesting" task, running the engine and tuning it is usually pretty straight forward. It will all depend on how much time/money you wish to spend.

Let me know if you are ok with all of this and I will see what information I can find for your car.

Mark

They have come back to me today and are ok to make a start on it. I do think it'll be a lengthy procedure but one that is well worth it. As he mentioned to me, the dynamics of how the car will run and operate will stay the same and be run by the standard ECU. The ** will take over all of the engine management details whilst still tying it back into the original system.

This is not going to be a simple plug and play, and will be cutting into the existing wiring. So what they require and have asked for me to help find for them is a factory wiring diagram for the SRT8. From this they can then work out what does what and begin development. Can anyone help with this or point me in the right direction?

Jected...Wow! You certainly aren't afraid of swinging for the fences! You (***) will be the first I know of that have tried such an ambitious project. The few people that I have asked have just rolled their eyes. Good luck and keep us apprised of your progress.

Thanks mate. Have copied it onto disk and sent it over to them. That is what they were after.

LOL....it's great fun. Unfortunately I had already made up my mind with what I wanted from this car the day I put the order in. Didn't think to check that it maybe couldn't be done. I thought all cars could be reprogrammed, well not entirely, as I have only ever owned GM and they can be done easily.

Regardless of that, I did take possession of it and I still want to do what I want to the engine. And once I get this problem out of the way, I (along with many others) can then start properly building these cars right up and see some serious power.

Plan of attack is as follows (as per ** instructions).
  1. Source engine wiring data/info
  2. ** will analysis the wiring diagrams supplied and look at possible ways of intergrating what needs to stay with what is going in.
  3. They believe the ECU needs to stay as it controls too much (all) of the cars functions. What they hope to do is seperate all the engine management controls from the ECU and run this entirely on their own stand alone system. This stand alone has the ability to tie back into a cars standard ECU and mimic the return signals that would have otherwise been there from factory. This is the part they are unsure of whether it can be done or not. They can and will run certain tests to see if it will intergrate, but they may only know for sure after they have cut into the existing loom and started development.
Fingers crossed this works, but I do have full confidence in the work they do. They good thing is that they can definitely reverse everything they did, only question is $$$. I don't think this is going to be cheap, but if it works I will be extremely pleased.

Good luck, and I hope for your sake that Chrysler does not get wind of this. they stopped a previous attempt at this very thing.
