B&G octane fuel timing issues ??

Does it really matter what level of octane you are using for your car when you have the B&G installed?

Stage II states "Revised premium 91-93 oct fuel (MBT) timing & WOT fuel tables", the problem being that we only use 95-98 octane around here. I'm asking this question because I wanted the Stage II flash because it is the most popular 6.1 flash according to many. does it REALLY matter if i used stage II when I use 98 octane fuel? short run or long run? because I cannot justify an extra $200 for a stage III that says "for Drag Race events, or Drifting events only, no street use!"

I wonder if they would tweak it for you to use higher octane on a stage II? I think it might hurt gas mileage a bit but don’t believe it will cause any damage, sorry I'm not an expert!

I'm no pro either, I have so many questions that i feel are stupid enough to keep for myself.. but this stage 2 - stage 3 issue is too confusing especially since we only have 94 and 98 octane fuels around here.

You should check with B&G first and I will of course defer to B&G on this but I would say that you're good to go with the stage II and 95 octane. B&G has probably advanced the timing to increase your combustion pressure and therefore given you a little more horsepower. Their octane rating being a minimum octane to use with that tune. Any octane rating less and there would be an increase in the likelihood of detonation. Any octane rating more and your just paying for a higher octane rating than necessary.

I would kill for 98 octane at the pumps. I'm limited to a maximum of 90!

I guess i can go with the stage II, our friend in the forum Maherm from the lovely Kuwait seems to have his mind set about the stage III, i'd like to see what he would advise since we live under almost the exact same conditions.

he is talking 91-93 US Pump octane, that is R+M/2. (RON + MON /2)

in the UAE like in alot of places thy use the RON octane # only.

RON 98 is about = to USA R+M/2 93-94...

hope this nelps

Thumbs up

Hey Ace, I and 6 of my buddies are using the Stage 3 B&G for awhile now with no drivability issues at all, the SRT8 will awake from it's sleep only if you go WOT with ESP OFF or when you need it...BTW my SRT8 is my daily driver

Maherm, how does the esp work with stage 3? I was under the impression that esp was gone. With esp on what does the car do if you try to do a burn out or slide around a corner? Have you had any experience with wet road conditions? Just trying to understand how the stage 3 effects every day driving. "No stall air/fuel torque management, no stall timing torque management, no shift torque management, no ESP torque management, no ice torque management." (per b & g's webside)
thanks, Fionn
PS. sorry for hijacking this thread.

it's OK you're not hijacking the thread =P
I think the only difference between the stage 2 and the stage 3 are the fuel tables.
