Has anyone put their car an a severe weight loss diet?

With as much power as some of our cars are now making, thanks to things like heads, stroker engines, turbos, etc., had anyone tried to start shaving weight from the car?

I'm curious as to how much weight could be taken off the car in an afternoon - in easily reversible fashion.

Has anyone done this?

I’ve lost 35 pounds in the last 3 months…..does that count?

So are we going to be stripping out the seats, glass, lights, etc and really going for it? How much does the cross member weigh we were talking about the other night?

I lost the 20" spare that was taking most of the trunk that helped in losing weight and now I have a normal trunk to stuff-up on long distance trips

Well - we could remove:

Everything from trunk
Back seat
Passenger seat
interior door panels.
Plastic look good stuff from under hood
belly pans under car

All of that should be pretty easy to do in an hour or two. I wonder what all of that weighs? I don't evern know what else people to to trim weight from their cars.

I suppose fiberglass hood and trunk could be done? Beyond that, it seems like other options would take a long time - like deleting the air conditioner compressor. Removing stereo, interior vent work, glove box, etc.

As much as I took out I put more in. Take out spare and jack. Then add airride compressors, Subs, amps, fiberglass enclosure, etc. I need 800hp to really go fast with all the stuff I am adding. LOL

Meister removes his seats and I believe some other things when he visits the track. You might want to ask him what he is able to shave weight wise. I'm sure he has that data down to the oz., LOL...

Gas weights between 5.8 - 6.3lbs per gallon. Drive around with a quarter tank, or about 5 gallons. This would save 14 gallons, or around 84lbs.

if you're going as far as to remove the back seat and passenger seat, go ahead and undo the driver's seat too, then remove the carpet. you'd be suprised how much carpet weighs. i think its probably the padding on the back that really does it.

Like Joey said....gas weight is the easiest thing I shave . I like to never go to the track with more than an 1/8 or worst case 1/4 tank . Like Danno said...driver weight is a killer too . Most of us could shave off a little in that dept. as well . The other things may be more trouble than their worth . Oh...screw it.......I'm having a big ass steak.....and getting juice and some drag radials !! Unless Danno want's to share his secret w/ me . How does a guy who knows so many reciepe's and bakes cherry cheesecakes drop 35 lbs in 3 months.!!!

It's the creamy pink sauce that kills us. Since when I need to haul ass, it usually requires two trips, I take the RAM!!!!
