Thumbs up Volant - My very first MOD!

Hey all you lucky 300 owners. My baby got her first performance MOD yesterday. Well that is if you don't count the wheels and tires.

I've been looking at the CAI kits and finally decided to go with the Volant. I was more concerned with looks under the hood, and reasonable sound. I didn't want it to be too overwhelming, as I'm looking for more of a semi rod, luxury car. I was lucky enough to trade favors with my mechanic buddy, who needs some vinyl for his truck. So I logo'd up, and he masterfully installed my Volant.

There were a couple things he did, that I'd like to share. When you install this thing, (Very Simple BTW) you take out the lower air box as well as the one you see in the engine compartment. The lower scoop on this model is just round, where some of the kits I noticed had more of a square scoop. Scoop better right?!! So, there is a scoop on the old box that sits under the wheel well. We cut that sucker off, cut some relief lines in it, and hose clamped it around the end of the scoop. He also cut off the stock mounting post used to anchor the stock box to the fender. At the time I didn't know that the extra piece in the kit was really meant for something. But, I think this actually turned out better. Flush and sexy.

Performance: First of all, this thing sounds sick. Nothing when just cruising, but once it hits like 3000 to 4500 RPM, it sounds like my 2.0 litter bug back in the day. This car was fast before, so when I romp on it hard, I really don't notice too much except for sound. What I did notice, is that when I'm starting out, it's got more lower end without effort. I barely push the gas and it goes.

(Side Note: I got all the way here and my computer crapped out on me. Lucky for Firefox Pro, I didn't have to re-type all that. It has a prompt that comes up saying that your last session ended ubruptly or something of that nature. So clicked "Restore Session" and poof! Not only did it take me to my post, but it had all the text saved as well. Bitchin!)

My Volant Exhaust is on order, and should be here in a few days. Install next week or soon after.

Thanks all for the help deciding what CAI to get. I'm very happy and you all helped.

Rock on.

Rob

Great for you. And I know what you mean. I take all the advice on this forum and I has I read the volant CAI was one off the best. So I order one monday. I receved my new toy today. The fist thing I did when I came back from work was jump on the toolbox and install it. HHHHHHhhoooooooo, what a feeling. The sound is a music to my ear. And with my superchip it's working very good together. I'm very satisfy with the volant intake . I'm sure that you will be to.

Congrats, I've been looking at the Volant for my mod based on the looks as well. I may have to bypass the hammer and go for looks vs performance on this mod.
