Poked hole in t-stat gasket - will it be ok?

I am changing out my t-stat to the 180 Motorad and when I was prying out the factory t-stat accidently poked a hole the gasket with the screw driver. I think it will be ok, but wanted someone elses opinion. I checked AutoZone and Napa - they don't sell gaskets. Checked with the dealer and you have to buy the t-stat from them for around $35 to get a new gasket. Thanks.

i watched a the bee brothers change a t-stat this morning. in fact, we're doing mine right now. that gasket is a bugger. the pressure on the gasket by the t-stat and coolant hose should hold it tightly closed...again, depending on the size of the hole you put in it. like uc45 said, i wouldn't take a chance.

Thanks guys! I didn't want to chance it. I stopped by the dealer and picked up a new 203 t-stat with new gasket. Everything went smooth installing the 180 t-stat with new gasket. No leaks. Now I will get started the noesp fan mod. Thanks.

Better to be safe than sorry. Glad you went and got a new gasket.

For future ref. do not put the screw driver anywhere near the gasket, to pry up the T-Stat. You want to slip the flat head driver (blue line) under this area (red line) and pry up the T-stat that way. This will protect the gasket.

Also I see you are going to install the Noesp (cool-it fan mod). Let us know how the install went.

The noesp fan mod is awesome! Very clean install and I like the option of running my fans on high when I want to from my parking lights and the horn confirmation - very cool! Took her out and ran her really hard for about 30 minutes and could't get the engine temp above 185 degrees and the outside temp here in Iowa was over 90 degrees today.

Thanks for the photos and advice regarding the removal of the t-stat to protect the gasket for future reference.

So which cool it fan mod did you buy? The full auto mode with options to turn fan on high and low, on your own, with horn confirmation?

I went with the manual ($75) fan mod. I didn't feel comfortable tapping into the factory wiring with only 8,000 miles on my ride. I like the option to revert back to stock within a few minutes.
