MDS Drone :: Could Someone Please Explain

I am about 3 weeks away from putting a Magnaflow system on my C. (Installed at a friends shop for $494). However, I am having hesitations from what I have been reading on this site.

MDS DRONE. All other exhausts besides Corsa cause this? What is it and is it noticeable?

Please help.

Thanks.

drone

the MDS system allows your car to run on 4 cylinders when lightly loaded. The radical change in exhaust volume and firing order causes the exhaust to emit a resonance that is annoying to some.

Strictly a matter of personal taste.

I am one of the few who used both magnaflow and Corsa!
Magnaflow lasted for about 1 week and replaced it with Corsa.
MDS With MF is BAD. Like an aircompressor running in your trunk.
Corsa is 100 % no drone and MDS 98 % undetectable
The extra $$$ you are paying for Corsa is for the engineering they put in it!
If you still can, return them.
Good luck
Gary

i was under the impression any C could have MDS drone, but that was because i had no idea what MDS was. since there is no cylinder deactivation in SRT8s, i assume then that there is no concern with the drone in the SRTs?

MDS drone is particular to the 5.7 engine and is very noticable in aftermarket systems, except for the Corsa, which uses a sound wave cancelling technology which harmonically tunes out the drone.

With the 6.1 engine, MDS drone is not an issue, but unwanted resonance at cruising speeds can be with many of the aftermarket systems, except for the Corsa. Some owners love to hear the growl of the big SRT Hemi right throughout the throttle range - others want to hear it only at idle and under heavy throttle.

It's a personal choice.

I will make it simple...If you don't know what drone is...Return and buy the Corsa system. Your first long highway trip will require a full bottle of Advil if you don't.

The corsa systems sound Amazing and without the drone...drone is simply irratating noise..it is not good quality exhaust noise that we all love. The earlier post is exactly correct...imagine an air compressor in your trunk...if you are still on the fence...go out to the garage...turn on the air compressor take off the hose and crack a beer and sit and enjoy...this will be your road trip.

You might also consider the Daytona/ R/T exhaust. That's what comes on the 300C SRT Design Group, and other members have put it on their base 300Cs. It gives you more grunt without the drone. I can't compare it to Corsa, though, as I've never heard the Corsas in person.

To be balanced, different people experience or react to the "drone" differently. I've had the Magnaflows on my 300C for almost a year now (July '06 install).

Yes there is drone. Yes it's noticable. It doesn't really bother me much.

However, if you have the choice between a system like Corsa with has proven it's handled the drone better than Magnaflow, then install them! But you might not be as bothered by the drone as others are.
