Are There Any 5.7 Magnaflow Owners Out There??

If you have owned, or currently own a Magnaflow Exhaust system on your C, just how bad is/was your drone?

Thanks.

I love Magnaflow Exhausts, I have always used them, but the drone issue appears to be a concern. I don't want to hear from people that "think" or "read" about drone. But rather people that have real world experience.

Best to find someone near you and go for a test drive.
I'm a little disapointed with the drone when MDS kicks in.

That noticeable huh? Haven't found any 300c's here with performance exhausts.

I have had my Magnaflow exhaust on my 2005 300C for over about two
years now.

It does not "drone" when the engine kicks into MDS mode. The exhaust
"note" or actual sound changes when it kicks into MDS mode. All aftermarket
exhaust do this. But that is not the "drone" as people keep saying.

If you have a Corsa, the change in the sound is less noticable than the
Magnaflow or Borla exhausts, but you can still hear the difference once it
goes to MDS. Its just that the Magnaflow exhaust is a little louder when
it does.

If I have the radio on, or the windows and sunroof open, I can't tell when
it goes to MDS as I can't hear it due to the other noises that are there.

"Drone" as people are saying, is actually the resonance that the exhaust
makes when it gets to a certain RPM range.

This "drone" is what people are confusing with the sound that the MDS
makes when it kicks in. But they are indeed two different things.

The "drone" on my system hits around 2000 rpm's when the car is under a
load, such as going up a long hill when the rpm's are being held in that
range.

Otherwise, mine does not "drone" at all. And, I have had many people in
my car, and they don't seem to mind it when it does kick in. It never stays
in that mode for more than a few seconds. But if your ears are sensitive I
could see people not liking it when it does happen.

Now, I will say that I have heard alot of different exhausts installed on our
cars, but NONE sound as deep and nice as a Magnaflow when the car is
started and idling, or under acceleration!!

When I start my car, no one will ever mistake it for stock. When I am just
cruising around under light acceleration, it sounds a little louder than stock,
but not much. The sound is just deeper than stock. And that is just what
I wanted.

When you step on it, it gets nice and mean, but not obnoxious.

My favorite part about it is when I am just cruising, and its just a touch
deeper than stock like I said. Then, I will step on the pedal, and the car
sounds like an american muscle car should, which is a deep throaty sound
that keeps increasing in sound until I let off the gas. I would equate the
sound to a 1960's muscle car with a huge engine and exhaust.

I love this exhaust!! I even had my girlfriends 96 year old grandfather in
the car once, and even he like it!

Because he is so old, he hardly ever talks much, unless he is either hungry
or wants something.

When I started up the car, and started to pull out of the driveway,
he said, "This car sounds nice. I bet its got a big engine in it doesn' it."

If a 96 year old man can like it, then thats just icing on the cake for me!!

Jim

Great write up Jim!

I love my Magnaflows. One other trick I like is to drop it into auto-stick when decelerating, it really "grumbles" and "growls" as it slows down. It's a pretty noise!

It also sounds sweet when running in 2nd gear around 30-40 mph. The mustang boys and girls give ya a second glance.
