The best iron headers

Guy, I just bought myself a 300 SRT8. Nice car. I'm old school and like the rumble sound. I'm thinking of building my own exhaust. 3in with flow masters off 1 5/8 tube sized headers. I Don't like the four muffler design and cat's do nothing for me.

Sounds good, do it and report back with PICS, but beware of the 2000-2500 rpm drone. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum Mike. Sounds like you're heading down the right path if you want the rumble. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something, but was there a question you wanted to ask?

Regardless, welcome to the forum. When you get a chance, introduce yourself and your ride in the New Member section: New Member Introductions and Assistance

I want a good set of headers that don't burnout, leak or warp. I've had to many cars with headers that just don't last. I want a set that have thick exhaust manifold flanges (the part that mounts to the head) and have long enough tubes that don't bounce off the road as you drive. Cats are slang for
catalytic converts. You just need them for the emmission inspection and can be dropped afterwards. A stock exhaust without cats would nearly be enough to get the growl without the exhaust drone.

Dynamax or Kooks seem to be popular header choices for the SRT8. Getting rid of the cats really cleans up the flow and will give you a nice pure V8 sound.

Just be prepared to put up with CEL's from the Electronic Control Module.

Whats a CEL? Is there air sensors before and after the cat? What are they? I haven't looked under the car yet. Electronic stuff can be fooled with. Its just a computer BS=BS out right. My 02 dodge pick-up has a resistor in the PCM cause I'm running way higher than normal tranny line pressure. The PCM doesn't know the difference.

I can only imagine how loud an srt would be without cats cause i have the 5.7 with long tubes, no cats and the borla "agressive" cat-back and when i put that baby to the floor its like hell rising up!!! the ground literally shakes!!!...but to be honest ive been running like this for the past year and a half but im starting to get annoyed with the smell and im always scared to take the car out so im thinking of slapping on some high-flow cats so i can go out there and enjoy the car with no worries and not get high from the fumes. LOL

If you've removed your cats and don't have anything to fool the computer you're probably going to be running way too rich. One easy way to tell if you're running rich is you can really smell your exhaust fumes...
