5.7 Liter STOCK wheel HP, ESP, and SAE 340HP number

Hey guys, complete N00B here, just got my 2006 300c w/7800 Miles on it about a month ago, loving the hell out of the car.

Couple of quick questions:

1) What kind of HP do the 5.7L versions typically make at the wheels on 89/91 pump and bone stock?

2) I have scoured the forums and read all of the ESP mod threads, etc. Does the crank SAE 340HP number for the 5.7L take into account this being ON or OFF? I am definitely thinking off as this is the engine's supposed peak HP rating only. Seems like Chrysler left this little goodie for folks to find if they wanted some more out of their cars.

3) While this car is miles away from the SRT8, are the 5.7L's similar to the SRT8's in that they actually make more than the 340HP they are advertised at? I haven't looked at any real ETs for these cars yet. I could see the SRT8 having more HP than advertised, not sure about the 5.7L.

Thanks in advance.

1. Generally speaking, 270-280whp is a good average for the 5.7

2. ESP mods wont add power. They might enable you to get down the 1/4 mile a little quicker, by stopping the ESP system from pulling power if it detects wheelspin, but thats all.

3. Theres no evidence that they make more than rated. The relationship between 340 to 280, and 425 to the SRT average of 360-370 tells that tale. 70 rated difference, but almost 100 different at the wheels.

I haven't dynoed the MSRT8 yet, but when I dynoed the 300C Heritage Edition last Sept., the result was 278 HP and 282 Trq at the wheels. Bone stock everything at the time, just monitoring engine oil temp to keep at about 170 F.

My 05 has 300.13 rwhp and 352.90 rwt all stock with K&N drop in filter. And I have the dyno slip to prove it.

On a normal distribution curve one standard deviation contains 68% of the population, two standard deviations contains 95% of the population, three standard deviations contains over 99% of the population...you definitely fall outside three standard deviations! What a statistical anomaly! I've said it before moddog, I hope you appreciate how special that car is of yours! Maybe you could qualify that amazing dyno slip a little for me. Did any of the other 5.7s that were close to stock get dyno'd that day? What were their results? And finally, have you ran that freak (in a good way) of yours at the track?

And cars like yours, and SRTs that dyno 390ish, are the reason I only state averages, based on all the dynos I see between here, Chargerforums, and LXforums. Like MS says, there are always individual numbers outside the norm.

270 to 280HP at the wheels seems low to me. I realize we're talking AOD here, but that seems like a nasty hit to the wheels. I would think a loss of about 50hp max, so about 290ish would be more like it. However, the numbers aren't lying according to most of you. I have dyno'd other cars for years so I know there are a million factors for these numbers. Appreciate the input.

I have read ESP DOES affect HP on these cars. Unless I misunderstood the manual, TORQUE AND ENGINE POWER are throttled depending on driving conditions. So maybe there isn't much adjustment unless you're in the snow or something.

For the stock 300RWHP run, were you using Autostick? If so, this seems like this could possibly be a reason for the higher RWHP. Sticks lose less HP to the wheels (No torque Converter, etc), not sure how the Autostick mechanism works though. You still go through a torque converter so I could be very likely talking out my arse, just a guess. You were on pump gas? Fans? No free mods?

I have heard of cars like this.

I come from a vast turbocharging background of smaller displacement engines, so these big monster engines are new to me. I am impressed at the incredible engineering in these engines.

What I like is the Multidisplacement system, this WILL ALWAYS give these cars good resale value in the future for those looking for some balls and good gas milage. As much as I love the SRT8, this is one perc of the 5.7.

The throttle and trans limiters only really kick in during either wheelspin or shifting, so on a one gear WOT run, they shouldnt affect power.
