Catbacks and your warranty???

First off, yes, I have read the Sticky thread on mods and your warranty. I just looking for real world experiences that members have had with their dealers.

For anyone who has a catback exhaust, have you had any issues with your dealer on getting warranty repairs done because of it? How about with Hi-flow cats?

The dealers manager that I always bring my car to for service told me he would strongly advise not to get a catback cause it would void most of my warranty. Hell, he even was shaking his head at a CAI.

So let me hear some of your experiences. I'm on the fence on getting a catback, but after talking to this guy, I'm a little nervous. I got the extended 5/100km warranty and would still like to enjoy it.

I am in the process of finding a mod friendly dealer. Kind of sucks though, this dealer is about a 2 min drive away. The next closest one is a good 20 min.

Thanks in advance!

I had my catback exhaust installed about a month ago, and a couple of weeks after getting it put on i brought it in for scheduled maintenance. I even asked the service tech to readjust the x pipe so it wouldn't hit the crossmember, and they did it for me free of charge. I also told them not to replace my air filter, since my AFE was on its way. The service rep looked at me excitedly and said "Nice which one are you getting?!" It really depends on your dealership...some are more used to seeing modified cars than others, and are more comfortable working on them. But a catback shouldn't be voiding any type of warranty on your car for the most part, unless something goes wrong with the catback itself. in that case, the dealership obviously isn't liable to fix an aftermarket part you had installed, as that isn't covered under your manufacturer warranty.

I imagine it would be pretty difficult to void a warranty with "Mopar" stamped on a catback or CAI. They can't do it (legally anyway). According to the Moss Magnusson Act they can't void a warranty repair unless the aftemarket mod is proven to be the cause of the failure. Catbacks are the least likely of all mods to cause a failure. Of course the dealer can screw with you for anything, which is why it is important to choose service managers wisely.

It's definitely depends on the dealership. The one I bought my car from was trying to sell me a r/t with corsa exhaust on it.

Thanxs for the replies guys. Just got back from talking to the service manager at the next closest dealer to my house(about 15 mins away), he said the only thing that he could think of that might be jeopardized(warranty) would be a O2 sensor. And even then he said it would still probably be O.k.

So now, I just need to do a bit of research on which cat-back is right for me. My wife is taking our son to Vancouver for 10 days in August, who knows, maybe while she's gone a cat-back might just show up! That's right, I wear the pants really fine! when she lets me!LOL.
