Thumbs up Oil cooler - yay!

Just thought I'd mention that I finally got out on track for the first time since installing the Mopar oil cooler (which is part of the police package) and holy cow, what a difference. Before, several minutes of hard driving or 2-3 laps on the tack would drive oil temps up over 280 degrees...now they stay in the 245 range even after 6-7 laps on track -- hard laps.

It's well worth it -- even having the dealer do it...$300 installed.

I am glad it works for you. I believe in oil coolers and trans. coolers. Years ago I lived in Corona,Ca. When Haden built a plant there I bought and put their coolers on every vehicle I owned. Of course I did get good discounts at that time.

Your engine bearings will thank you for the cooler oil. Take a look at this thread. Toward the end of the thread is pictures of my Police Oil Cooler install. I haven't tested it at the track yet but have been pleased with the difference even on the street. I am happy to see your very nice improvement on the Track!!

Do you notice any difference in temps with normal street/freeway driving?

I haven't really paid much attention to the normal condition temps; you don't want them getting much below 220 degrees in any case, or you won't boil off any condensation that gets into your oil. Given that the coolant being used to cool the oil is coming out of the 'hot' return from the engine, and that's at 200+ in a stock engine, I'm thinking you won't see much difference.

But I had noticed that, even before heading onto a track, that just a few spirited minutes of driving in canyons (less than 10!) would spike the oil temps up to 280; compared to the track, such driving in canyons is actually done at typically slower speeds and thus even less airflow.

I just get really nervous about seeing oil temps up that high and that's why I'm so much happier with the cooler on. I really think it's a near 'must-do' for just about any kind of spirited driving, even moreso when that driving is NOT on the track.
