6TH Air Intake Installed Airaid. Moved the AIT, and vented to the Engine BAY.

Well yes I have done it AGAIN. Since I traded my C for a SRT I have owned 5 air intakes. I have noticed HONESTLY almost nothing as far as gains from any of them, and inbetween all my changing, the stock one seems to nothing lost. Here are the ones I have owned.

1. Mopar (loudest WOT)
2. AFE2 (UGLY, large, better...)
3. GSM (no noise WOT, but made the exhaust note louder, and deeper, and cool looking I think)
4. Injen (Best throttle response BY FAR, I got it for $50.00 shipped on ebay, and if it was not so nasty looking I would have kept it, I removed the shroud around the filter sounded great performed VERY well now I miss it)
5. Airhammer (sounds cool, sucks the most air I think, but I didnt notice anything that made me crazy about it. Looks sweet)
6. Airaid (just got it last night I wanted something plastic, and with a heat shield that engine compartment is HOT I realize they are saying there is no difference in performance with or without the shield but I like the look and fit better with it... I will have a write up on the Airaid later in this post.

I finally got some of the dryer vent stuff Jmatt was talking about to make a sort of intake from the spot inside of the fog lights, and vented up to the hole in the engine bay. Ignorantly, with all my intake upgrades when installing the GSM I removed the brake vent which would have been perfect like Jmatt used to draw the air to the vent tube. I will see if I can buy a new one today. I used some plastic weld glue and zip ties, and this thing is in there nice and tight.

For the engine compartment hole I found at Home Depot a white plastic part $1.79 that fit perfect in the hole, and U used a rubber connecter and plastic glue to join the 4" dryer vent tube and thewhite plastic part that I glued into the engine bay.

2 days later, today, I got the Airaid intake and decided to lengthen the AIT wire, and move it to what I think is the coolest point in the engine bay (wish I would have thought of that before I did the vent LOL). Anyway with a lil drill, dremel, and work I got the rubber grommet and AIT moved. Here are some pics, check back later, I will see how the intake does and let you know!

Well I will say one thing this thing fits so nicely... I mean that thing will not budge period. I painted it a gunmetal color, black looks a lil boring. Will look much better once my BT blue pieces are in!

FIT AND FINISH A+++

Tips, remove battery negative during install to asure no codes come up, and also after install and replacing the batter negative then remove and replace fuse 11. Makes a huge difference to me.

I commend you on your trials! Good stuff with the intake you created. I will try that with your old Airhammer!

If I were you I would reroute that dryer vent if you feel you must have it. Somebody else did a fix here on this board sometime back where they routed it to the upper radiator air baffle. They cut a hole in the baffle to accomodate the tube. This fix would be much better than what you did for 2 reasons: 1) You will be able to reinstall your brake vent, which should have never been taken out in the first place, and 2) it will prevent unintended water from getting into your intake if you happen to run through a puddle that is 8 inches or more deep since it could fry your engine by giving the water a direct path to be sucked up. By attaching it to the upper radiator baffle, it would be at least 18 inches from the ground. But in my opinion, I wouldn't route any kind of hose up to the intake. I know that you probably think you are getting some sort of ram air effect, but you really are not. More than likely you are making your car starve a little more for air with that kind of setup. The better solution is to just remove the lower radiator baffle on the driver's side. This allows plenty of fresh air to make it into the intake, much more than you would get with a dryer vent. It will also prevent any kind of water from getting into your intake.

Listen to DaveW68. What you have done with your setup is restrict your ambient air inflow since air can no longer come in thru the front of the platform where that hole is. The area between the platform and the grille -- go look... its not a perfect seal -- gets airflow, which feeds the forward-facing part of the filter with cool air, and helps keep the air feeding in from the top cool as well.

I notice you had a GSM intake. GSM requires as a part of its setup that you remove the lower radiator baffle. So if you followed the GSM instructions (assuming of course they put that in your version... I have no idea as I used a test unit provided to me directly by GSM and we talked out the install) and just get rid of this hose you will improve your airflow. All this airflow stuff has been tested quite a lot over the last three years or so. Plus, separate ram air effectiveness tests yielded an approximate speed of about 300 mph needed to provide an actual ram air effect.

That doesn't mean you should stop trying stuff out. Personally I have had 10 intakes on my car. Recently been testing both stock and SRT intakes for air temperature differential when they are feeding air up thru that hole. Surprisingly the SRT intake fed warmer air (not surprising if you look at the difference in the designs side by side).

That is pretty close to what I've been thinking of doing with my stock airbox......

so, what your saying is basiclly, there is no proformance gains from intakes??
what if you have an exhaust?
I didn't have a chance to read this whole theard, but from the just of it it sounds like there is no need to add a cold air intake...
any feed back would be appriciated.
thanks, Aaron

I had 3 or 4 different exhausts, and 6 intakes. None of which did I see performance gains from. I have the SRT and from what I read or see or understand there is almost no gain from anyone. If I had it to do al over again, I would have done no exhaust (I am back to stock now) and I would have done the air intake, because I like the sound of it. It makes the car a lil more aggressive sounding, but not obnoxious on the inside.
