I suspect that one can build a Frankencooler that's more effective than the police unit -- that said, the police cooler keeps oil temps at 245 under heavy driving (on track) which is well within what I'd define as the "safe zone" for oil (as compared to the 280+ I saw without it).

If you went to a cooler thermostat I suspect you'd see the oil temps drop a bit more, since you are cooling the oil with the return coolant off the engine.

If you are having a dealer do the work, the parts are about 90 bucks and then it's about 1.5 hours of labor to install the police cooler.

The Frankencoolers appears to the the ultimate solution and addresses power steering cooling as well.

That beeing said, the police package is a good, inexpensive Mopar add-on that will make a significant difference under hard, hot driving conditions on the stret as well as the track at a very reasonable price, imo.

any one with an srt8 needs an oil cooler even if they do not drive it hard.

To avoid all the unneeded complexity of the factory Mopar cooler I am adapting a GM plate cooler from an auto transmission. Much simpler and may even work better. We'll soon see.

gee, about equal to a plate cooler for $75.00. Hard to figure where they got that idea, but it sure is a moneymaker!

I like the simplicity. The factory set up is just too complex.
