I use the 12,000lb fiberglass ramps at Autozone, set the parking brake, chock the rear wheels and I use either jack stands or my 3.5 ton hydraulic jack as a safety catch, you will never read about me in the paper crushed under a car. These plastic ramps are great for low slung cars and they claim to work on a vette. I got mine when I could not get my Alfa up the steel ramps. Also the flat part where the wheel sits was short and the stop was low allowing me to drive my Citroen off the ramp luckily I raised the suspension and slid he ramp out, the glass/plastic ramps have a bigger wheel rest and a much higher stop but you want to be very careful easing up the ramp so you don't overshoot it.

I have found over the years that all the manufacturers torque the oil filters on really tight. I haven't owned a GM in 20 years, but I hear that they are the same. My Mopars, and Fomoco's were all tough to get the original filter off.
I have a gear drive end cap wrench that seems able to get anything off, although it may crush it a bit.
