Cleaning an AFE Stage 2 Filter

I have heard you can put them in the dishwasher. Is this true? Is there a better way?

Can't find much info on the web except to use their re-charger kit, or k/n recharge kit. I don't think I would put it in the dishwasher, though, you would do a better job just using the sink..

^^What CUEBALL said ^^. You need the recharging kit made for the color of your filter, either red or blue. Of course, each CAI company is going to only recommend their brand of cleaner.

...not unless you want it to come out damaged, leaving smelly, greasy stuff all over the inside interior walls of your DW and on the racks.

I made the mistake just once of placing my stove top bbq grilles in the DW as recommended by the manufacturer. Oh, they came out clean but completely dull in color due to the chemicals in the detergent. Worse, I then spent hours trying to remove all the grease/grime off the interior walls, door, and racks. It seemed to be burnt on due to the high heat used for drying.

Imagine what auto chemicals coming off the CAI filter could do to the interior!

So you all think that the K&N RED kit wont work for the blue AFE other than changing the color????

I have a couple of K&N cleaning kits dont care about the blue filter...diferent oil or something maybe???

I would definitely use a sink, not a dishwasher. Also, make sure not to dry it with a blow dryer or similar device. Let it air dry.

Is it best to use soap and water and rinse and shake it out and then let it air dry over night?

So should this only be done with the AFE cleaning kit? Any other easy ways - I've never owned a lifetime filter before.

I've owned K&N filters before and the recharger kit comes with a solvent to clean the old oil out, which you just rince out in the sink, let it air dry and recharge with fresh oil. Pretty basic.
