JetChips

Here's the story.... In my ongoing efforts to have MORE POWER... I've been reading up on some of the feedback from our other members who have already gotten the chip installed.
I think the consensus is that there is absolutely an increase in performance, specifically approx. 25-30hp to the rear wheels.
I had 2 main concerns; obviously the chip voids the warrenty, but when you pull the chip prior to having service done at the dealership, I've heard the car's memory keeps a record that there was chip installed (even after it's pulled), thereby voiding the warrenty . Mark at Jetchip told me today on the phone that this is not the case. Their module installs outside of the ECU and does not change anything internally, so if removed the ECU will still be stock.
This seemed to make sense to me.
Has any of our forum members who have the chip, gone to have any service at the dealership & have any first hand experience of this???

My second concern is ...We all know this car's computer learn's your driving habits, and compensates the vehicle's performance acccordingly. I was worried that after the car has had the chip for a period of time, that the car may adjust accordingly and decrease the increased performance that you experienced with the chip installed. Mark's response to this concern was as follows.....Since the module is external the ECU can't compensate or change anything that the module is doing.

His rationale for "tighter transmission" was basically that all cars are different and everyone's interpretation is a bit different. I took this as the chip doesn't do anything directly to the transmission.

For the record, I was specifically discussiing part #90404-S. This is the stage II which is the chip needed with high performance exaust & CAI.

Regarding the Dyno info.... Per Mark, on their existing (soon to be updated) website, there is Dyno info. for a 2005 Magnum...but it's stock (stage I)...he said the info. would be pretty similar to the 300C.

Two questions???
1. Do you know if you have to use premium gas with the stage 2 chip?
2. Do you need the 180 degree thermostat?

Third question, how long will it take to blow the tranny (which aint all that robust to start with) by exceeding the max torque rating of 425?

1. yes - required with stage 2, highly recommended with stage 1.
2. no. From what I gather that thermostat is not a requirement. Based on some of the feedback left by other members who have this chip installed, they are not reporting any overheating.

I think the question is a bit pessimistic. The only way I can answer this is that the motor is built to handle far more than what the car is originally set to handle (which is "normal" driving conditions, which is how they "rate" that maximum in the torque). To date, I don't believe any members have reported blowing their transmission. Perhaps they haven't had it long enough to do so? There may be some validity to your question, contect Jetchip about that potential result & let us know what they say.

Please no more talks of tranny problems

im not sure if any of you are familiar with BILL MAHER's show on HBO but I think he's hilarious..he has a section of the show called NEW RULES. I propose NEW RULES:

New Rule number 1:

Please, please no more rambling about the tranny taking only 425lbs/ft of torque. Until someone on here blows a tranny, lets assume that that 425 max is pure BS which it probably is

Have a good day.

I'd Have to respectfully disagree with this statement

I'd have to disagree with not discussing this any further. I would rather have people educated out there about where the possible limitations are on this car. Yes, I agree that they are theoretical limitations, but the more informed people are then the better decisions they can make. Chrysler states that the max the tranny can handle is 425/lbs of torque, that is important information for anyone thinking about making performance mods. It needs to be taken into consideration. Especially when dealing with a major component on the car

If the trans shifts are firmed up a bit, the trans will actually LAST LONGER!! The smoothness and slowness of the shifting is for "ride comfort", the general public would not like firm shifting. This slowness between shifts means the clutches are slipping to allow for this, and the more the clutches slip, the quicker the wear. Don't believe me? Talk to a tranny shop. As long as it's not slamming in between shifts (and it won't come close to doing that), I feel it will be beneficial to trans life to get rid of some of the slipping.

For simple bolt on's - Exhaust, a jetchip, and a new intake is not going to make enough power from stock to wear it out any faster.
Adding a blower or N20? yes, then it should be looked at little more closely.

This discussion of only 425lb's etc with simple bolt-ons is really getting a little overblown IMO. Until everyone has 3 years and 50k to 100k on the car and the MB unit starts acting like it's in an American car and blows before 100k - then I'll eat my words, but until then, there's really only ghosts in the trans that people are afraid of, and I don't believe there's any in my tranny...my house? maybe, but not my tranny.
