And most people on here beleive theres a significant power loss due to heat soak around 215-220!!

But to give you an idea what to expect, here are my times. Forgive me if my mph is off from my previous posting, i'm pulling these from the top of my head.

Stock (just filter + plugs) 14.05@101

Diablo(93+normal shift points) 13.80@102.5

Diablo(93+raised shift points) 14.20@???(i deleted the file)

I don't have real track data to support my claims, but my trusty ole Gtech has always held up to scrutiny on my past vehicles, so these times should be strongly considered.

However according to the few stock 5.7 dynos that I have seen, our power seems to trail off right before shifting using the stock shift points, so increasing the shift points will just make it worse. On V8 vehicles, more RPM does not necessarily mean more power.
It rained on friday so the strip was closed. now i have to wait another 2 weeks to get my times. i couldn't find the 180 degree t-stat. the only one i cold find was a 160 degree. my temp on the track ran about 178 degrees. I'll give another update in 2 weeks

K I will be hovering around this topic for a waiting for ya. Of all the retailers I went to, autozone was the only one that had it and I had to find it myself in the book because the cashier was clueless.

Its thermostat number 4128 and should come up with just a basic search for "4128" in their computer.

BTW I just recently installed an AFE stage 2 intake and upgraded to the 93octane/CAI tune with my diablo and here are my gtech results.

Stock= 0 to 60 in 5.68 and 1/4 mile in 14.05 @ 101mph
Diablo/K&N filter= 5.28 13.80 @ 102.6 mph
DiabloCAItune/AFEstg2/t-stat= 5.21 13.76@ 102.4mph

So there is definately some bottom end gain from the intake/tune and the sound is AMAZING. I have fresh tires but there just cheap dunlops. So I imagine a good set of drag radials would make these cars have ungodly times.

My next step is to get a CAI. I have been looking at volant simple because it has another tube pulling cold air into the air filter. have you heard any about this one. I am also going to get my borla "agressive" exhaust this weekened. i can't wait to make it back out to the track. i might get antsy and take it to a dyno this weekened.

When working with the diablo is it best to get a sport chip or does it do fine with reprograming the stock chip?

All you need to do is buy the Diablo, update it, and download it to you car. If you have an aftermarket chip installed, i doubt the diablo will even work and your likely to damage something.

Gone are the days of physically breaking into your ECU and modifying the hardware. Nowadays everything is done via software.

Alot of "chips" and "piggy-backs" do little more than trick your computer into operating within certain parameters.

Tuning novice with a couple of questions

Hey Guys -

I'm reading all these threads trying to absorb the community knowledge, but there's a couple of things I don't understand that I haven't noticed answered...
1) Why would you want to turn off MDS - under what circumstances is that a good idea?
2) What is the deal with 'shift firmness'? My (limited) understanding is this really doesn't do anything for speed gains - it just 'feels' better.

Thanks!

The firmer shift I feel definately helps in the 1/4. However, away from the track I return it to stock because the firmer downshifts seem to "lightly jerk" the car when coming to a stop (2nd to first shift). It's annoying!
