Oil analysis is easier with the Fumoto drain valve in place, Very easy to sample. I use the Mobil one TurboDiesel 5w40 in the S430. I use 5w20 any brand synthetic in the C, MDX and Ody. Last batch I used was Motorcraft full synthetic 5w20. I have also used Napa synthetic (made by Valvoline).

I haven't used Valvoline synthetic yet but Ashland Oil has a long standing good reputation for oil with many mechanics..........

I am wondering about that new oil that Mobil 1 has came out with and curious how good it is. It's the new 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy Fully Synthetic. I bought the 6 qts. today along with the mopar filter as well; since they didn't have any ac delco's in stock. Give me some feedback. Thanks.

I would expect it to be as good as any other Mobil 1. That fuel economy talk is nothing more than going from 5w to 0w, something Honda and Ford did years ago foing from 30 to 20. Honda now specifies 5w20 or 0w20.

I had thought about trying it for my '96 Roadmaster and probably should of. It calls for 5W30 and I went with the Mobil1 5W30 15K stuff. I might as well have tried the fuel-ecomony stuff as I don't really drive that particular vehicle all that hard. Anyone who wants to chime in, I'd be glad to hear it.

The 5w and 0w have nothing to do with economy. They dictate how cold the oil can go before gelling. The lower the number, the lower the pour point.

Agreed, the lower the number the lower the cold pour point. It really is the upper number that is claimed to be the economy number 20 vs 30. I was at Wally's today and Mobil economy oils have a green label, IIRC there was a 0w20 and 0w30 so they are marketing the 0w oils as "fuel economy" oils in addition to having a lower cold pour point.

props

hey, big props to IIKings, as he got me thinking about my oil.

I have used factory recommended 0W-40 for the first 4 changes, then tried the 15W-50 due to EXTREME oil squirter noise. Didn't do much to the noise at all, and definitely hurt economy, probably HP, too.

Switched to 20W-50 Amsoil Racing oil, changed the noise a little but was getting some top end noise at start up, and still thinking it was too thick.

Switched to Amsoil 5W-40 Euro Formula and couldn't be happier. Quieter valve gear and rev happy HP, and best of all, almost no noise!

Thanks, IIKings!

I use Royal Purple in my 2005 2.7 and 94 f150 and it's worked great for me.

new!

new oils
Hemi owners, rejoice!

New Amsoil Racing Oil now available in 5W-20 for 5.7 owners and 15W-50 for the 6.1 (via TSB). They also have a 10W-30 viscosity.

This is a brand new racing formula being sold under their Dominator trademark. Very expensive, but arguably some of the finest money can buy. These are the same exact formulas used by real racing teams sponsored by Amsoil. Recommended for high rpm, high horsepower, forced induction, gasoline or alcohol fuels, and nitrous.

I'm not a dealer, just a big fan of these products and we bought several THOUSAND dollars worth of their stuff last year!
