Thumbs up K&N

I would give K&N the  for this one. Out of all the air intakes for the Hemi C motor, i would stay with this one. Nothing against Volant, or Airaid. But the trick into using a "cone" style air filter, is it's built in Velocity stack..

Looks like the same tube and filter used on the volant, except the volant gets forced cold air from the lower grill. I would like to see some independent dyno tests to prove a 21 HP gain.

The cone is a very efficient design. The Volant uses a cone as well. The difference is that the Volant encloses the entire air delivery system so that the air stays as cool as possible, and is picked up from a cold location.

Cones that simply sit in the engine bay cannot not give you cold air when you need it most.

Interesting comparison

I'd like to see a head to head comparison of the two, the new K&N and the Volant. I'm interested in a CAI myself and a shootout would be nice before purchasing. I agree that outside air will be colder, but will it make an actual HP difference? I also imagine the K&N will be louder with the exposed filter cone.

Looks like the one for Marauder. That is what had on my car before the supercharger. It will be going back on this Wednesday with the blower.

The cone filter element looks like it. Bigslim, is there any chance you can open up the filter, and expose the stack that's clamped on? And Bobcav, im interested in a shoot out as well!!

Actually, when the hood is closed, it covers the top as well, blocking the hot air. That's what those rubber things on top are for, to seal it.. Also, you can leave your stock silencer in to bring cold air to the engine cabin, or modify your own with an air duct system..

Airaid uses the same approach. Works well.

fine print

Actually "not -so-fine" print- At the bottom of the page of specs and sdescriptions, they state:

"NON-EMISSIONS LEGAL:
AirCharger Kits are NOT legal for sale or use on pollution controlled vehicles in some states. These kits replace the original air filter box and may eliminate or defeat some emission controls. These AirCharger filters carry our Off-Road/Racing Limited Warranty. "

What does that mean?

The add also says the hp gains are "Estimated 21 HP". It does not say the
gain is verified via a dyno run like the Typhoon kit shows with its gain in HP.

But for now, the Typhoon is the only one that has actual dyno numbers that back
up the hp numbers. I have not read any Volant or Varaam actual dyno numbers yet
on their websites, so I will stick with my Typhoon for now, until these places post
actual, real world numbers that I can compare.
