I think it is probably too early to know this, but what kind of power can we get out of the sms supercharger? the sms cars are getting 700, but the engines are far from stock, so would it be too much for an otherwise stock engine, or will we just have to use less boost?
Basically- what you have at the crank now, you're getting at the wheels with the SMS296.
I actually had a really interesting conversation with the rep. We talked history, performance, available upgrades (from 4.5 to 5.5 pounds), and most importantly-$$$! Plan on spending over 8k for the basic package.
Boosting a stock engine isn't an issue, OVERboosting a stock engine IS an issue... Boost is no more detrimental than using the right amount of Nitrous.. Everyone overdoes it.. Let's see if I can cram 20PSI into my stock Hemi!
5-6Lbs inter cooled... What's the issue?

I've heard of lots of guys runnin about 5 psi without any inherent problems yet, then again you have to wonder how many miles have been put on most of these blown cars since install. Its a lil tough to tell the total longevity of a blown hemi until more people have really cranked out some mileage on em.

Anything that makes more horsepower will have more wear, how much more wear is the question, and also how it's driven and how it's maintained will also matter. I don't see why a blown 5.7 won't go 100K miles
very well put. I've got 85k on my odometer, I'm waiting till the cars paid off and then the motor swap begins, I'm thinkin 392 twin turbo? oh yeah baby!

Wow, this post is so right!
You can't see why. Because it's internal. And oh, so simple.
Now that we've had dozens of failures we now know the primary factor in the loss of pistons to boosted and heads/cam cars.
It's the piston ring gap. They are simply too small from the factory. Open them up a few thousandths of an inch and the problem seems to go away. But a good tune only protects you so much, you can't just add fuel and fix weak design!
