Anyone with some basic performance mod suggestions?
Just purchased a 2006 SRT8. Absolutely love the car. I know there is a ton of aftermarket mods available, and I would like to get started on some basic performance mods. Nothing crazy (yet.) Does anyone have any advice for basic mods? exhaust, computer chip, air cleaner, intake etc? I am on a budget so I am looking for mods that I can install (very basic mechanical skills) or possibly have installed for me at a reasonable cost.
Also - where can I get a quality upgraded / custom grille for a reasonable price? I hate to take my chances on ebay.
There are a sea of parts for sure. Grills are such a matter of taste I don't know what to say. I love mine and bought it on Ebay, but definitely be careful. As far as initial mods I recommend an Intake and a Predator programmer. Past that exhaust and then it starts getting pricey. I don't know what the most highly regarded intake is right now, I believe it was the AirHammer. And congrats on the SRT!
Welcome to the forums rtrw. If you search around a bit, you will find a ton of info specifically about what you are looking for.
For basic performance mods, the commonly recommended starter kit would be cold air intake (AFE or AirHammer, among others), lower thermostat (I like Jet 180), a Predator programmer - all can be done yourself. Don't know if you have the skills for the exhaust, but there are many options to choose from and I'm no expert on that. As for the grill, that is really a personal choice. I recommend looking around for awhile. I changed my mind on my grill 100 times it seemed. I like my Grillcraft and many people get the Grip. Or a lot of the cheaper ebay grills don't look too bad if selected tastefully.
Thanks!
Also looking for a navigation disc...any ideas where to get these? I see them on ebay for $40-100, and $200 at the dealer. is there a difference?
Thanks!

Yeah, the dealer sucks.
If you search around a bit, you might be able to find somebody on the forums that might be able to help you out.
Thanks!

Wow! A perfect illustration of how a FORUM CAN WORK.
I love it.
To the OP, first mod should always be the predator. It transforms the entire car. Then it dovetails nicely into future mods. Of the choices out there I say the CAI and a thermostat are the easiest, the exhaust is more about noise than power and very difficult to DIY in the driveway.
