dumb volant install question

I got my volant a few weeks ago but only now have the time to insall it-I notice that the vertical tube is tapered. Which end goes towards the lower vent and which into the filter box? The diagram is not really clear nor are the instructions. One end has a ridge or flange for the clamp I assume but would appreciate inputs from the wise before blunder on !

Thanks,
Jaydee

At least you got a diagram, I got nothing in the way of instructions. If I recall the tapered end goes to the bumper, easy way to figure it out is to loose fit the long metal bracket with that long stock screw, there is only one way it will fit to secure it to the bracket. I think with the tapered end down, the mounting hole lines up prfectly with the bracket hole, it won't line up if you flip it the wrong way.

tapered end

II kings,
I have it the other way round! the silicone coupler would not fit the broader end. The bracket fit fine for me... aaagh! did I mess up? Would it affect performance if it was one way rather than the other?

Jaydee

PS- I also did the mesh grill thing- the E&G one with the center bar and am pleased with the results!

You are correct jaydee... the broader opening goes to the lower vent; you really couldn't make a mistake as you would not be able to attach the bracket if you placed the air scoop incorrectly. Relax and enjoy!

Looks like my recollection ain't what it use to be, Hemeee is right, it will only fit one way, thus the test fit with the long brackret to see where everything should line up.

thanks!

II kings and Hemee,
thanks for your considered inputs. As I have posted elsewhere, I am actually enjoying this contraption and think I may be getting beter mileage- somehow the engine seems to be more "controllable" now.
