Does the chrome intake offer noticable performance advantages beyond using the "plug and play" filter from K&N in the stock airbox?

I doubt it Cmonstr. Maybe the intake is more direct, or offers some sort of percieved advantage, I would think just the K&N, or similar high performance reusable filter in the stock box would amount to about the same results. Besides, this thing looks more at home on an import tuner car. I don't like the look. Just my 2 cents.

Some things to consider ...... that chrome tube will pick up heat and transfer it to the air going through. That filter will be picking up mostly hot under hood engine air. The stock box is at least drawing air from a low source and should be cooler. The stock intake pipe may stay cooler, but at least it is starting with cooler air. Warm (hot) air is less dense, doesn't make as much power. So the cooler you can get the intake air, the better. That is why true cold air intakes are so popular. That is also why racers at the drag strip put ICE on their intakes between runs.

"C"for me summed it up well. A plastic intake will be a much better way to go. Also something that uses the stock cold air pick-up at the bottom. I'm watching for something like this

2005 Silver 300C - picked it up today!
2005 C6 Millennium Yellow Corvette convertible - on order

2002 Silverado HD - 8" lift + much more!
2002 Supercharged 8.1 Suburban - 13.93@ 95.79

K&N

Hay
I talked to the K&N guys this weekend at the Good guys show in Millwaukee.
I asked about this they told me that they dont make this for the 300 or Mag. That it's not going to do any good in HP gains. Why u ask cause C for me hit it on the head that Chrome tube. They did say that there should be one out next month in the plactic form. I'm waiting to see that before i buy the flat panel. If i remember right the plastic one should be a nice gain in HP i dont want to say a number cause i cant remember what they said.
