yep...more JET chip questions

Ok....here are a couple of questions I have for the users of the JET Chip. I have read about the install etc. And I must say...it does not sound to easy to install and or fit into the ECU "space". That being said....when/if I needed to take the car into the dealer for repair, etc. how easy is it to REMOVE?? I used the Jet Stage II on my '99 Dodge Dakota R/T. And the ECU was right out in the open and VERY easy to get to the plugs. BUT....having to remove it twice....on the 2nd time I/it broke the little "ears" in the ECU side of the plug. This was due partly to the fact it was hard to get into the underside (ECU side) of the Chip. This is a concern of mine. Has anyone removed theirs yet?
Next....again on the Dakota R/T. I belive the ECU "learned" the JET Chip. The last time I removed the chip I did not re-install it and I could tell NO difference at all in the "feel" of the truck. And in fact when I took it in to have a check eng. light looked at they said the computer was running the timing advance up a little high and they recalibrated it.
Anyways....if someone could tell me/us about the ease of removing the chip that would be great!

Bamboo,

Just mosey over to the next thread titled "FOLLOW UP on the 20+ hp..". It's all there. Best to browse through the whole thing, but if time's short I've answered your specific question on page last.

The chips well worth the doing. Now get out there & start having real fun.

Hey Meister. I did read all the posts in the other thread. BUT....but,they do not address the issue of REMOVING the unit for service, etc. That is my main concern. Like I said before. The clip "ears" on the ECU on my Dakota broke after the second time I had to remove it. And to get to the ECU on the Dakota was no problem at all. The one in the C looks like it is shoe horned in there.
Anyways...thanks again. Also....how many miles do you have on the JET CHip install? The one in my Dakota was good for a few hundred mi. and then the ECU learned or tuned itself to the chip and was pretty much worthless after that.

I have the Stage II chip. I have installed and removed the chip three times since initially installing it in the car. I can now either remove it or install it in about 10 minutes without any problem (including removing the negative battery cable and plugging in the memory saver). The tricky part is getting the dust shield off the factory plug without breaking it when reinstalling the chip. If you are careful, it's pretty easy.

Personally, I think the chip is worth the trouble.

Hey Big. What part of "Done right the chip's invisible, so don’t fear taking your car to the dealer for routine service with it installed. You'll only need to pull it when you're going to have your beast hooked to the heart monitor. No gripes on your part equals no attaching of the diagnostic cable, so you'll rarely need to pull the chip." didn't you get?

Or are you simply making the point that one should be careful not to break the clip "ears"? If so, your point is both well made and important.

Ok...thanks to all who responded to my cry.
I still have not heard from anyone who have put some miles on the chip. I would like to know if they still feel the gains, etc. As I wrote in my last posts...I know that in my Dakota R/T the comp adjusted or learned the chip. So after about 300 mi or so it was pretty much back to stock.
I did dig through some of the older theads and see a couple of people said that after awhile they thought they were just used to the chip and could not tell if it was still working or they just got use to it??? That kinda sounds like the ECU adjusting itself to me....but as I do not have the chip I can not make any real world comments on it.
So.....PLEASE....anyone who have had the chip in for a few months and a few thousand miles on it please jump in.
To reply to the gent who asked why I was so worried about the chip being in when I had to take it to the dealer....well yes...the only reason I would take it to the dealer is if I get a light or other issue where they will plug it in to the machine. And so it does have to come out and I just wanted to know about ease of un-installingt it.
Thanks again guys....glad this group is here.

Sadly I believe you will find the only folks super enthusiastic about the Jetchip are those still wondering whether or not it makes a difference.

Most of those that purchased the chip when it first came out have installed it and continue to run it, but the seat of the pants dyno excitement effect can only take enthusiasm for a product so far. Dyno reports, 1/4 miles and 0-60 times over at the LXforums state that the chip doesnt do much if anything at all, this is why many of us are waiting for a programmer.

The claims that the jetchip changes shift points, and fuel delivery during shifts, or modifies the torque converter are completely false. This has been verified by jetchip themselves in numerous e-mails.

When a programmer/chip comes out that does remarkable things for our Hemi's, I assure you many if not all of us will be running that product and you will have no trouble finding opinions or experiences.

Until then, for $250, the jetchip might be for you.

I just hate wondering if a product is doing what its advertised to do...

Rogue is right. Once the newness is gone the toys arnt as cool as before. HEHE

I just put one in and it's new to me so it's fun. From what i read and been told the reprogamming is the best thing but it's not here now and will cost a lot more then 160$. The Chip is a nice little added mod like any other one most of us are doing. Now reprograming that's a differnnt ball game.
