Thumbs up

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the B&G performance flash of one's engine control module (ECM), whether the original ECM or a second, "spare" ECM, the B&G flash is the real deal.

Flashed with Dave Kasper's proven recipes for performance, one's car not only performs better, with increased power and authority, but is also noticeably more driveable. Idle is smoother, and acceleration is quicker. Fuel economy generally improves as well, once one can resist the urge to keep checking to see if it's still extra peppy, as was immediately noticed upon starting the engine after installing it.

The B&G flash is on my ultra-short list of all-time preferred mods.

And PPP is making it available here at an excellent price. Good show, Jeremy!

Does anyone know if the B&G Flash still puts the vehicle in limp mode if you exceed the RPM's on the starting line burn out? Or was this fixed? Non the less, things are looking good.

If Meister puts it on the alltime list of mods that's good enough for me.

O.K. hopefully Jeremy or Meister can answer a couple of questions.

Now with all the different types of flashes available, I'm getting a little confused. I read a couple of months ago that this flash can be done for you if you send in your own ECM. Am I correct? If I am correct, where is the ECM? What does it look like? Is the Pcm another unit all together? Pics would help!

I'm still slowly trying to pool some funds away from my wifes penny crunching eyes, so I can get some performance mods. She's always mumbling something like "The car doesn't need it! Why do you need more power? The car has enough power!", yah, I know, CRAZY TALK! And when I do get mods, this one is in the top 3. With all of the flashes for the PCM, ECM and TCM, I'm getting a little confused!

Thumbs up The B&G flash, from PPP, is a proven winner - a "Must Have" mod for all...

No longer a problem, Moose. For me at least. And no problems with limp mode for the one SRT8 I'm familiar with.

In fact, the B&G flash appears to be the reason that SRT8 is *avoiding* limp mode, whereas another local SRT8, running without benefit of the B&G flash, encounters limp mode regularly at the track. So its positive benefit to the SRT8 community is now quite clear.

The latest tranny flash has helped all who have taken advantage of it, and the Superchips tuner's raised shift points has all but made limp mode a thing of the past for the 5.7 community.

I'm just about to begin a road trip, and won't be back on till tonight, JBS, but I'll take a quick shot here and verify that yes, you can send in your own, original, ECM, and be without use of the car for a couple of days, or, alternately, you can purchase a second, spare, ECM for around $260, last I checked, and send that it, thus not being without use of your car, and having a pure stock one to slip back in if you ever need to visit your dealer with a power train issue.

The ECM sits just forward of your glove box, and is accessed from the engine compartment. 'Takes me less than 5 minutes to swap mine in & out these days.

The B&G flash truly transformed my car - made it idle as good as or better than stock despite having a mild to moderate cam (Comp Cams Stage I, or 260) in it, and "woke it up" performance-wise.

Good info Meister... I may look to purchase a spare ecm and have it flashed. I heard this flash is the way to go, esp w/ a heads and cam package.

Any time tommy - always glad to help.

Not sure about using *any* programmer with it. For one thing, I'd think it's likely to reject the ECM as not the same one it was first set up with/for. And then there's the concern about "dumbing down" the B&G.

If you choose to try it, I'd suggest you tread very lightly and only change some item of little or no consequence to test it first. If successful, continue to move slowly and cautiously.

Do report back if you try it.

Absolutely correct, CD. Once cooler weather set in I was in two footer's hades just keeping my cammed car running at a light. And then along came the B&G flash and magically made all the bad stuff go away. And the car run like a raped ape to boot.

Can't say enough good about either the B&G flash *or* Jeremy / Power Ported Performance (PPP).

Edit....this was in response to Moose .I forgot to enclose his quote here..

Ok.........I have this to add to my B & G stage II PCM flash in my 2006 SRT-8 . I am having intermitent limp mode problems . Here is the deal..... I did both the PCM and TCM flashes with HHP back in october of 06 . I hit limp mode 4 frustrating times . #1.... Leaving HHP ...getting on 95 ...got pulled over for speeding(64 in a 55.....Don't think the NY plates helped me much there!!) ...anyway...after my ''chat'' w/ the super trooper...I put it in drive and started to pull away from the shoulder.....stick was in D ...but the P on the cluster was still boxed as if it was in drive and ...no power !! Back over to the shoulder for me . Damn thing wouldn't start for at least three minutes . Cop pulled up again(couldn't really tell him my high performance chip was malfunctioning !! LOL!!!). Called Josh/HHP . He was great .....put me in touch w/ a tech ....asked me what happened....how it happened..told me he did the work for Josh.....great service here....but before we could go any further....it re-started.......so even though I don't think I did....we assumed I was in 1rst when I pulled away from the cop and hit limp mode and the limiter (in hindsight I pulled away so gentile because he was behind me watching my every move...it couldn't have been the limiter thing). Car ran great the rest of the way home....a real friggin beast (On top of the two flashes ..HHP put on P&P heads and intake). #2 was at the track !!! At the line after my little burn . Light wen't green..same thing . The P was still boxed on the cluster...no go !!! Took another three minutes to re-start . This sucked bad . HHP was there to witness this . Again..we assumed I hit the limiter on my burn in first.....although I never use auto-stick at the track for this fear...so I thought MAYBE..I inadvertantly had it in first .Car ran good the rest of the day 12.7 at 109 w/traction issues . # 3 (here's the kicker)...I was reversing out of a parking spot ...in a parking lot.put it in drive...no go..limp again .Three minutes....good to go !! # 4....last weekend at a meet...leaving a picture shoot...from a parking spot . Now I am convinced.....I was not in first either of the first two times and did not hit the limiter . I have nobody to blame but my self ...because I don't know what is doing it...haven't swapped my stock PCM back in (will do this weekend)...and loved the way the car runs so much..figured this occasional problem may be a trade-off .I called no one , as of yet . I will try Josh/HHP now that this is becoming a real pain in the ass...and see if maybe it needs to simply needs to be re-flashed .It was an early model ? I will keep you all updated...so my mistakes are not yours .The reason this sat for so long is a busy work schedule and constant family obligations...keep me from enjoying this car..all to often .Don't think I put on 2,000 miles since my October work and have just under 5k after 14 months in total . Damn thing sits in my garage plugged into a wall....but it helps get through my work day...knowing it's there . Take care and this thing works awsome(B&G Flash)....I just have to figure out my problem , Mike .
