Shocks???

I have 22" rims on my car and when I hit bumps, potholes etc. it feels like I have no shocks left? I bought my C in May of 2004. I took the 22's off for the winter and even with the factory 18's it still hits bumps really hard. Now, when I first put the 22's on right after I bought it, it wasn't that bad. Is it possible to blow out your shocks? How do I find out? Last question, if I take the rims off and put the factory ones on and go to the dealership and the shocks are ruined, would they be under warranty? Someone help me out.

Thanks!

They will be under warranty as long as they don't read your post.

The original 18" tires absorbed a lot of shock through the high sidewalls. The tires and wheels weighed a total of 53 lbs.

The 22" set up has a tire with almost no sidewall. And the combined weight of wheels and tires may be much higher than 53 lbs.

This radical mod to the most critical part of your car has put high stress on the factory shocks; the brakes; and the steering system.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer is very specific about not covering warranty claims for brakes; shocks and steering in this case.

Unless those wheels are forged (which I doubt) they will be way more then 53 with tires. The Fuzion 275/55-20 weighs 45 lbs and that's just the tire and it's not even a 22. Even with forged wheels there is little chance any 22 setup will be lighter than stock. Until I got my GY ComforTreads my stosk suspension felt like there were no shocks on bumps and potholes. I wonder if a set of Bilstiens would help (please tell me Bilstiens are not stock). NE1 know who makes the stock shock for the C.

Per this pic, ZF Sachs. Apparantly produced in Mexico per this link.

I had to have both my rear shocks replaced in July becasue they failed. I started hearing a loud "thunking" noise whenever I went over bumps or made right turns. The noise was in the right-rear.

After taking it in they said that both shocks had failed and showed me by pressing the removed shocks down by hand. They went down really easy and you could hear air escaping as they did it. Apparently the seals had failed.

This was on my 300C which I bought new in January. The wheels, suspension are all stock and I have never hit anything or ran over anything with the rear which might have caused premamture failure.

I was surprised to see them fail so quickly, but the techs seemed unplussed and ordered new ones. After the replacement, never had the thunking noise anymore and I must say the ride did seem smoother.

However, I have a new issue in the same area (right-rear) where going over bumps causes a "chirping" noise in the same are, as if a family of crickets have moved in under the wheel well. REAL ANNOYING.

I took it in and they said that the right-rear shock/strut mount is bad. They tried lubing it, but it didn't help. Apparently they didn't replace the mount when they replaced the shock before. So now they have again ordered another strut WITH a new mount this time. I will get it replaced later this week.

Go figure.
