Exclamation Transmission Problem???

I was drivin along today and I went to punch it and it didn't shift. I was in like 3rd gear, and it would not shift, I even slowed down to turn and it didn't shift there, I took off very slow. I tried to put it in neutral and back to drive..still in the same gear. Tried to put it in autostick, wouldn't work!! What is up with this?!?!?! I got back to my office, turned my car off and back on and it was back to normal. Anybody had this problem? Is it the computer goin outta wack or my transmission or what?

Alright well I thought this was just an occasional problem, just came and went..so I was on my way out of work to wash the ride and go home and install my srt-8 deck lid, which I was totally hyped..when on the way it feels like it got stuck in 2nd. I wasn't going too fast so it wasn't very dramatic, just felt like it was a little too high of a rev. So I pulled off the road, and the check engine light came on!! Wonderful!! So I turn it off and back on like I did earlier and the check engine light was still on, tried one more time, got everything off and back on and the light was still on. So it just so happened I was on the street of the Chrysler dealer I had service it last time. So I pulled in and asked the nice gentleman at the service desk if he could possibly have somebody check out my car, told him the symptoms, and he asked the other guy if they weren't too busy to take it in..luckily they were'nt..as I was worried I'd have to set an appt and come back and leave it and be w/o my car for at least a few days cuz I couldn't drive it home. Well I did have to sit in the waiting room for about 2.5 hours, but they ended up fixing it. He said it is the speed sensor. When it goes out it goes into "limp" mode like mvpatriot stated above, kind of a safety so you can get off the road and get to where you need to be. The sensor can't recognize the rpm you are at and know when to shift, so it will sit in 2nd gear. He said it usually isn't intermittent like that. It can be 1 of 3 things, the input or output of the speed sensor or one of the wires. If it is the input or output I assume it would be constant until repair, but mine was a wire that got broken. It would catch and spark, then come apart and went into "limp" mode. Well they replaced the wire, it shifts fine now everything is good and no cost to me being under warranty, so the 2.5 hour wait was well worth it. Thank you Chrysler...and Cliff!!!

thought tsb, but nope...

Well, I took my C in to the service dept. because I knew I was having issues with the tranny and figured the tsb and flush would do the trick. Well after a few days of back and forth I believe my problems are finally solved.

First, the TSB was performed, but no water present in tranny and shuttering still occurred. Car goes into "limp"mode, ecm flashed, codes cleared= still shuttering and still stuck in 2nd gear.

Next, they thought the traction control was kicking in early and they discovered that was not it either.

The main tranny tech finally figured that my problem was 2 things. As sleevasteve (spelled wrong prob) also stated, I had a issue with the speed sensor malfunctioning. Theyfixed/replaced said sensor and that elliminated the shifting "limp mode" issues, but the shutter was still present.

After all this, it was discovered that I had a failed Modulating Pressure Control Solenoid within the transmission.

Whats that??? got me?

But they claim it was fairly simple to replace, and didn't cause any other dammage to the tranny.

Verdict: decent service at the dealer, it just took them awhile to diagnose the problem and get me back on the road.

One question, in doing so they changed my oil and I was running synthetic. Will I have any problems and should I change back to syn. ASAP?

Thanks guys: Jared

Jared, you can leave the regular oil in for now and switch back to synthetic at the next oil change.

It won't cause any problems.

Glad to hear your tranny problem was corrected.

Agreed, changing back to dino oil will not hurt anything. Just switch back to the synthetic at the next recommended change interval, and all will be just fine.
Even if they had added dino oil to your synthetic, it would probably have been alright, you would just have to change at the next "Standard" change interval. I think that most synthetics are now compatable with normal oils, at least I KNOW that AMSOIL is and it has always been.
Take care and enjoy your ride. Oh, how many miles do you have on yours, and is it an '06 like mine? I haven't heard of any problems like that on the '06's, as yet.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I will just change bach to syn. at the next 3K. Yes Model57, I do have an 06. I was told not to worry about the tsb either, but had it done any way. The service manager actually told me that it is likely they will be doing a recall on the cap/gasket assembly.

Just figured I would post the symptoms and my experience with the shudder in the trans.
