Cabin air filter?

My '05 MB does not have Protection Group II. Can I install a cabin air filter?

Not quite sure what you are saying here.

These forums deal with the DC's 2005 Chrysler 300 series. The "C" model has the filter builtin. I don't know which others have it or not. But If they do not, it may be possible to get the parts from Mopar and install it. Shouldn't require much work; it doesn't even look as if sheet metal is involved, just some plastic or something like that. I would go to a dealer's lot, and compare the area under the hood between the right windshield wiper pivot and the right fender up by the firewall.

But on an '05 Benz? Is that what you really mean? If so, you are in the wrong pew in the right church. You need to go to mercedes.com or so. :^))

mileshoover.........your post brought a question to mind. Can we change our A/C filter? I run my A/C all of the time, and I think the A/C is starting to smell funny.

Sure, but I would go to the dealer first and get the Mopar replacement filter in hand. I know the maintenance manual gives a recommended time to change these filters, but logically if things smell, your filter may need to be replaced sooner. It is on the regular maintenance schedule, also., but don't recall exactly.

One you have the filter in hand, just go under the hood on the right side up by the firewall. You will see a ventillated door in the horizontal air grille at the firewall just between the right wiper pivot and the right fender. Open that door carefully, pull out the filter and replace it.

When picking up the replacement filter, ask the parts guy if the filter can be installed "as is" or if it needs to be sprayed with something.

Perhaps one of our Service Manual owner members can enlighten us on this point.

I have had mine out (nosey), but have not seen a need to replace it yet. Whatever you do, do NOT remove the filter and then drive the car for any period of time. Doing so will be just like running a home AC unit without a filter -- you will contaminate the ducts without them being filtered.

Now that may seem like trivia to some, but if you or yours suffer from allergies, you will know exactly what I mean.

Thanks mileshoover. You are a blessing to this forum. I do have allergies, and was really happy to see that the 300c had an A/C filter. I will let you know how it goes after the filter is replaced.

Just so you are aware, the 300C only has the filter from the factory if you have the Protection Group.

Miles, the only thing that the manual stated is that be aware of the arrow to indicate air flow direction and the "rear of vehicle" label on it. Said nothing about spraying something.

OK guys, sorry for being too terse...but by "MB" I meant "Midnight Blue" in my '05 C ! And, no, I don't have Protection Group II, so I suppose that means there's a big gaping hole under the right front cowl where the $15 filter goes. Only prob is, the dealer couldn't locate a part number for the filter. Too new for aftermarket?
