key fob malfunction

Tonight my key fob would not unlock my doors. It still locks; and the trunk opens fine. If I use the key to manually unlock the doors, the alarm sounds. Is the fob toast? Does it reset somehow? Will a new battery fix it?

The alarm thing is normal.

When you lock your doors with the FOB it sets the alarm.

When you use a key to open teh door it set it off, just start the car real quick and your fine.

My guess if your button is stuck or broken, take it in and have them get you a new one.

Is there any more info on this? My key has done this a couple of times. However, I didn't think to check to see if the other buttons worked. I was too concerned with trying to figure out how to get into the car w/o the alarm going off. Anyway, I ended up shaking the key a few times and it started working again. I think that I may try to replace the battery and see if that has any effect. My car is a 2004 300c, and I haven't dropped the key or otherwise damaged it.

Oh, I just did some more searching and found out about the solder points coming loose. This would explain some things. I don't know how to solder so I wonder just how I'm going to go about bringing this issue up to my local Chrysler dealer? I wouldn't really care about the issue if the alarm didn't go off whenever you open the door manually. How irksome.

Your battery is starting to go. Eventually you will start to see RKE Battery Low appearing on you EVIC. Get a new battery. They are $5 at the dealer.
I also did the solder thing. Here is a pic of my key. The arrow shows where I soldered the loose connection.

I had the same problem. At first I just banged it around a little to make it work at that moment. Replacing the battery worked well for a few days, but after replacing it several times, I finally got fewd up and just had the dealer make me a new one. I'd recomend you do the same, it's much easier that way! Mine was still under warranty but if your isn't I believe the key replacement was around $100 or so. Good luck.

broken board

I just had the same problem. Inside my key, the circuit board had busted, no drop or anything else, worked intermittantly for awhile then not at all. Found it when I went to change the battery. Dealer replaced no cost under warranty.

Had the same problem .... dealer replaced it NO CHARGE.

Did take them a while to figure out how to sync the key with the onboard computer data.
