Engine light came on

Hi all,

I had a set of Magnaflow hi flow cats installed in my 5.7 on Friday. Drove it back from the exhaust centre and all day Sunday without any issues.
Getting on to a freeway this afternoon I had to pass a Hyundai before my lane ended so I floored it. Once I got onto the freeway itself and eased back to the speed limit the engine light came on.
Took the car to a DC service centre and they said it's the new cats that caused it. Something about too much air flow. They reset it for me and I drove home with the occasional 3/4 WOT with no issue.
Has anyone else had this issue with hi flow cats? Is there a way to prevent the problem reoccuring? Am I doing damage?

Thanks
Sean

no damage. Most likely it is looking at the cat's efficiency and since they are high flow it doesn't meet the internal specs so it throws a light.

No damage. I have the Kooks hi-flow cats. It is not the Headers throwing the code (as some members think). It is the hi-flow cats (Magna flow or Kooks).

Each time that it has been checked, each time it says it is my cats throwing the code. As Magnumfreak stated. The car is breathing too good now. The Computer is set up for a certain Pyrameter (exhaust temp.). When you WOT you are pushing far more heat through your pipes than the Comp. is set up for. Thus throwing the code.

With the addition of the Kooks long tube headers to my car. I don't neccessarily have to be at WOT to make the comp. throw the code. I believe GSMotorsports has a fix for the Kooks cats code problem. Don't know about Magna-flows cats though.

When or if a tuner program is released for the 6.1's. All of these little pesky problems we are exp. will go away.

Best he could do or offer was next time the light comes on, to drive straight there for testing. Doesn't really solve my problem coz I don't beleive in one off situations. Happened once, it will happen again.

Yeah, seems odd that yours came on and you're not running hi flow cats. Points to something else don't it? You're wise to be suspicious, keep an eye on things. What were you doing when the light came on?

I know it's a little off topic but man I never get tired of looking at you car. Love the "color coded" look. I was actually in Houston in January 05, wish I'd know about the forum back then, I could've hooked up with you and taken a closer look at your SRT.
Maybe next time.

Cheers
Sean

was almost home, street b4 mine is nice and wide and always quite, had the esp off, flored it all the way as i turned in the street, felt a brief moment of total power loss, light came on.
Have tried to replicate everything since then, but no light.
