Warning bell with no indicator light

Every now & then, when I start my 2006 300C, I hear two bells go off. I've looked and looked for some kind of indicator light or icon, but don't see any. My seatbelt is fastened, the car's not in gear, and the parking brake is off. I cannot figure out why the two bells go off, or why it doesn't happen every time. Anyone have an idea?

Do you have navigation? If so, you might have set a service reminder (i.e. your oil change).

Look in the event display under "last chime."

There are 7 pages of additional EVIC data you can access by pressing mode (music note) and compass on the steering wheel simultaneously for about 10 seconds. Use the leftmost Up/Dn arrows to scroll through the pages.

Page 1 - CCN SW P/N
Page 2 - Speed/RPM/Coolant Temp/BattV
Page 3 - Temp_AVG/Temp_RAW/Pedal_Position
Page 4 - Compass/Compass_RAW
Page 5 - Left/Right fuel tank level info
Page 6 - last VTA trig (???)
Page 7 - Chime request info,

I know you said the parking brake is off, but make sure that the lever is all the way up by using the release anyway. The slightest touch on the brake lever can set it off, even if the parking brake isn't actually set.

parking Brake

Kinda off the subject, but whenever I hear about a parking brake I share this story. Friend had a vette and ALWAYS used to set the parking brake. After about 8 months he noticed that he could see a persitent smug on the brake disc where the brake held. Since then I never set my parking brake. Perhaps an old wives tale, but who knows

how would he possibly always use the brake on the exact same spot of the rotor every time? Sounds odd to me...

Years of driving a stick... always set your brake.. you don't have to crank to down to the floor, but always set it, and have it adjusted regularly...

Most cars with rear disc brakes have a drum brake incorporated into the rotors, so setting the park brake wouldn't have caused the "smug". It's likely caused by leaving the car sit for awhile in wet or high humidity conditions.
