oil in exhaust? help

I removed my stock exhaust tonight and there was motor oil coating the header outlets when I removed the x pipe. I also noticed that after letting my car sit for 2 days, it smoked when I first started it, enough smoke that a cloud kind of lingered. I've only got 800 miles on it. Am I screwed?

Watch your oil levels and how much your loosing.

Run the car some more and just keep an eye on it. If you are over 1qt of oil per 800 miles there is an issue. Also how did you break the car in ? Lots of short trips, long high way miles Mixed driving ?

Small puffs after sitting is typically from valve guides.

Is it making any odd noise ?

That thing is not broke in yet (800 miles). You might not have the valve seals sealed as of yet. I would keep an eye on this situation for sure. I would also let my dealer know about it and make sure they get a note in the computer about it.

Good luck...

Moose.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have only driven short trips and have barely seen the freeway. Most trips around 6-7 miles (commute, store etc.) I just went out and checked the oil level and its at the top of "Safe" area. I haven't heard any weird noises. With the short trips I take when should I expect it to be broken in?

It's very important to get your rings properly seated. Brief bursts of wide open throttle (WOT) with a full lift off the throttle and allowing engine compression to slow the vehicle to a low speed, then repeating the WOT - full lift cycle (after bringing engine to normal operating temperature) are crucial to proper wear in of both rings and main bearings.

That's what the factory recommends Meister, I did it with my baby following those recommendations.

You should let the dealer know and document it, it may help you if there is a problem that shows up post warranty expiration.

ok thanks for the info. Maybe if I'm lucky its a combination of not yet broken-in and a little too much oil. That would be nice, but I will let the dealer look at it anyway.

I have almost 12000 on my "C". Even when new, I never needed to add oil between my 3000 mile oil changes. You might use my experience of my "C" as a reference.

well I watched it all last week and have not seen any oil level change nor any smoke. I wonder if it was too full. I still will mention it when I take it in for the sunroof next week.
