Roof Rattle behind the roof opening

I have a bad feeling about this. With less than 8k on the odometer my C developed a rattle that was a bit difficult to locate. It is in the roof just behind the moon roof opening. It doesn't matter what position the roof is in and When I apply pressure to the roof lining at various locations it has no effect.

Could there be something loose in the roof guides or frame between the headliner and the roof? Has anyone heard of this? Letting a dealer take the headliner out to investigate is a scary thought, but the "rattle" is there all the time.

Any suggestions? has anyone else experienced this problem?

Help

Jim,

Several have experienced a similar condition. Mine first appeared this winter and only seems to make the annoying rattle when the weather is cold. I will have it documented at my next vehicle service.

Here is a TSB from ResumeSpeed's list for the sunroof rattle:

Thanks for the help. The TSB sounds exactly like my problem. I'll be taking it to my dealer next week.

Jim and Serbs,

Let me know when you have the TSB performed at your dealerships and the impending results.

I honestly don't want the headliner messed with unless it's necessary. So for now, I'll just settle for having it documented and deal with it before my warranty runs out.

Good luck to both of you.

Bruno,

The TSB looks like they need to put "lock-tight" on the studs on the sun roof frame (one at a time per the TSB). The scary part is that it calls for the removal of the A, B, & C pillar trims and to "pull the headliner down".

I think I'll have a nice chat with the service manager when I drop it off. We'll talk about quality, care, cleanliness, etc. Scheduled appointment is Monday the 26th. I'll post the results after.

Thanks again for hooking me up with the TSB. The dealer hasn't dealt with one of these yet so it was nice to be able to get him focused in the correct way on the issue.

Jim,

Great! Thanks for being willing to take the risk that's holding me back. This is what's so great about our forum...members having more knowledge base than some dealers/service advisors. I just wish it would be standard for the dealerships to make TSB checks routine on our cars when they are dropped off for service. That's why I always have them write it up that way just in case I miss one of ResumeSpeed's updated posts!

Good luck and I look forward to reading about your experience.

Any one having trouble with their roof not closing all the way in the back end? I have this problem and if I dont push it up in the back to make sure it closes and it rain or car wash, then leakage, I took the visor off and that was not the problem. Is their any ajustments that can be made by me or is this going to be a dealer issue. I called chrysler and told them about the problem and they said they would help with the bill. You now how the dealer are, they will try any reason to say you caused it.

Anyway the question was have anyone had or have this problem?
