You should get the hid option from the factory. 600 is a good deal.

Here is how you make your 300 stand out. I did this with my Hemi Ram.
You put an hid kit in your foglights as well. Talk about bright! What size are the 300's fogs? 9006?

I havent seen anyone in my town with hid head AND fogs. I get asked about it all the time.
Initially, say back in the mid to late 90's the "auto-leveling" was not required by DOT. DOT updated or changed the standard because of all the reports of blinding oncoming cars. So yes, many early models with HID don't have it but I believe the are required now. All Mercedes, BMW's and Lexus have since around 1999 or 2000 I believe. I had a 1998 E430 with HID and it did not have auto leveling.

I still haven't figured out how to get my aftermarket kit to properly work on my 300C.

The lights power up and light fine with the vehicle turned off.

Start the vehicle, and then turn the headlights on and it's a different story. The lights will strobe for 30 sec to 1 minute before lighting and staying lit.

If I turn the headlights on before I start the car it seems to help with the problem, sometimes they don't flash at all.

If anyone else has installed an aftermarket kit, and does not have this problem, please let me know the manufacture of the kit.

I am running a McCulloch one.

Thanks,
Ron

Flicker is usually a grouding problem, or it could be because mcCulloch uses generic bulbs which could also cause it. It probably your ground, double check all your connections.

It's definately not a grounding issue.
I have grounded, and regrounded several times... I have even grounded the negative directly to the frame of the car. Relays don't work to fix the problem either. The car will buzz the relays too. The part that I really can't understand is that if you turn the headlights on before starting the car, the flickering is minimal or non existant... If you turn the headlights on after starting the car it's a different story.

I just installed another McCulloch kit on a BMW 850 and it doesn't have the problem.

Any ideas what to do next besides throw this stuff away?????

Ron

I have personally installed two aftermarket HID kits and I can’t exactly recall why, but you are NEVER supposed to turn your lights on first before starting you car. Don’t confuse this with just turning your lights on without starting your car.

With both on these cars with aftermarket HID’s, I start the car first, then I turn the lights on, initially the lights have a bluish hue to them until they warm up. Which takes about 10-30 seconds, at that point I’ll get an occasional flicker now and then. As far as I know all HID’s taken time to warm up, remember that they are filled with gas particles.

I should have mentioned that Philips makes my kits. I know that a lot of aftermarket HID kits being sold nowadays are of very poor quality and often times being passed off as some other manufacture
Maybe you got a knock off type of HID kit? Where did you get your HID’s from?

My understanding is simply to have the entire battery amps available for the starting process. Obviously, having the lights on first will take away form the amperage available for starting.

Thanks KEV.

I didn't find it there, but www.hidforum.com worked!

Still no luck, everything there that I read seemed to describe all the troubleshooting, and rewiring that I have done.

I think I'm just going to take this kit off the car if I can't get it figured out in a couple days, and try a different kit.

E55 Kev linked me to this thread. We had the EXACT same problem on our Magnum over the weekend. And did the same amount of frustrating head scratching you have done. Give us a call when you read this so we can explain how to fix it (706) 536-4114, we don't sleep so you can call as late as 1am Est or tomorrow morning as early as 9am in the morning. We are used to late phone calls from helping people with their SRT, so don't hesitate to call if its late. We know the frustration you are going throught right now.
