I'm going to try installing an HID kit that we carry to see how it works. This will be a "Stage 2" kit (6000k with a bluish tint). I'll probably install a capacitor if I run into a problem. The only time this is usually needed is if the low beams are used for the daytime running lights. I'll probably be posting the results towards the end of next week.

Just received a little more info that might help the people that are trying to install the HIDs -

You need to make the relay think that the headlights are on, when either the DRLs or Perimeter lights are activated.Since when the DRLs or Perimeter lights are activated a pulse of alternating0 volts and 13 volts is sent to the relay, this caused the relay to switch
on and off very fast, causing the HIDs to strobe and the relays to chatter.
A capacitor needs to be installed on the two wires on your harness coming
from the connection to the factory headlight connector. These should be as close to the relay as possible. So now, when the DRLs or Perimeter lights are activated
the 0Volt / 13Volt Pulse is modulated out in the capacitor, 13 Volts is sent
to the relay, and the HIDs come on like they are supposed to. It looks like
manufacturers are going to this Pulse Width Modulated type of voltage
control to handle everything from the blower motor controls to DRLs.

Unhappy

If you want to go with the OEM parts you need to replace the front wiring harness, sounds pricey.....

Correction, I have 300C and assumed the bulb was the same on all 300 models. Only the 300C uses the hard to find 9006XS halogen low-beam. All V6 models use the regular 9006 bulb. All models use the 9005 in the high-beam - which I would never upgrade since rarely used.

9006XS in Chrysler 300C only:

9006 in Dodge Magnum and all V6 300's:

I emailed DC Customer Service. I was told it is not possible to retrofit the factory HID's to the non-HID cars. However, they responded a few days later saying that there *IS* a Mopar retrofit kit being designed.

They couldn't provide me with any additional information, but this is the way I plan to go. Was at the dealer today - the HID kit isn't in the system yet, so I'll just continue to ask and bug them occasionally. I'll post here once it comes available!

Isn't there a difference in the shape of the front light area? I may be crazy but I could swear the housing is totally different.

Yeah, the housing is different - but I think the shape is the same. Plus, when you get factory HID, you get the headlight washer system...

That would be an industry first. DOT regulations prevent dealer from retrofitting headlamps even if using OEM parts. That would be nice and I hope they also do the same for the Dodge Magnum. The Magnum sorely needs HID. I hate the yellow and dim halogen lighting.

Don't know what to tell ya, E55 - here are the emails I received from DC in response to my inquiry... (Can't post my responses because they were via a DC webform.)

Dear Scott:

Thanks for your email about the headlights in your 2005 300C. Thank you, as well, for your patronage of our products.

It is not possible to retrofit your vehicle with the noted HID headlights. Mopar, however, is coming out with a high intensity light that is similiar and will be compatible.

Thanks again.
