BOTTOMLINE: Do NOT shift into neutral while driving.
OTHERWISE: The Mercedes 5-speed automatic transmission will NOT re-engage until speed goes down to 25mph.
QUESTION: Has anybody else experience this phenomenon? I know I have coasted along once or twice with pretty much the same results, but did not quantify it. :o
Apologies: normally, I don't quote me-self.
Tried this on way home - not that bad. Transmission did show some "reluctance" to re-engage, but hardly a safety issue.
This, at approx. 40-45mph.
(Hey, I'm trying to get my 12.6 mpg average up anyway I can).

You know; I've noticed it seems like that the harder I accelerate, the better mileage I get.

I will continue to investigate this.

Oh, if only this were true, you may have discovered the key to true happiness! Just the mere suggestion has me giddy. Can't wait for the report

yes redman, i remember phil hill, but i'm sure he was driving a stick shift, not automatic. in my younger single, carefree days, i used downshift to brake too.
