My 300C didn't need the coolant recall but I had the dealer check it anyway when they did the radiator bracket recall. The service invoice says that it's good to -34 degrees. I presume that's the "factory setting" because I haven't added anything since I bought the car.

I received the recall and tested mine which turned out to be good to -25F. Saved myself a trip to the dealership.

How do you go about testing it yourself?

I bought a coolant testing guage, which goes for about 8 bucks, and tested my coolant in the overflow tank. Pretty basic, anyone can and should check there cars on a regular basis.

Sure you should. The coolant does not only protect from freezing, it protects from boilover.

What is the coolant supposed to be set at? I can not find a recommended level of protection in "degrees" in the manual. The reason I ask is I just took delivery and mine tested at -25 degrees F.

Is this acceptable ( I live in Wisconsin) or should it have been set lower, say -40 or -50 degrees F.?

What does the TSB say that the concentration should be?
