Sound system prob. in cold weather

I live in NJ and for the past month or so I have noticed that
on some very cold mornings my sound system sounds
staticcy. Sounding almost as if a speaker is torn. then after
driving for 4 min. or so it all clears up. This only happens on Cold days.
I will have this checked out during my scheduled oil change next
week. Hope they can find the prob. with car warmed up. Any1 else
had this prob?

Mine sounds like S$*t all the time, I live in Jersey, too. Some of it may be the horrid reception I get, some is the fact that either a couple speakers are blown, oe rattling around in their mounts, or rattling something near the mounts. I will wait until sprin and tear it apart and see what I can do.
BTW, there are other posts on this, too...Search the Dealer probs section under audio or sound system. It was very early on (June/July 04), so it may be gone, but FYI, there was some good info!

Do you guys both have the C with the stock system or do you have the SG2 upgrade?

I have SG 1 and replaced the front dash spkrs with eclipse, the stocks were paper whizzer cones, very cheap, same as SGII. I suspect this is where the noise is coming from. The rear deck speakers sound like horse sh!t and I plan to replace them, only thing is I am using the stock amp and it may not be worth it given they only sound bad when I fade to the rear.

Sound system prob. in cold weather

I have the C with the SGII. My prob. is not reception
due to it happening with the CD player or radio until warmup (about 4min.).

I actually think the sound system in this car is pretty good for a factory system, I would like better imaging from the fronts, but all in all it sounds solid for a factory system, it's not a LS430 after all. =)

That said, here in MN when it sat out in -12 weather during the day, the radio sounded fine, but then again, when speakers are that cold, I don't push them hard as it can be bad on them.

jaxson, there was also a thread I started a while back (called Cracklin' rosie, I think) about a rattle in the dash area by passenger side speaker. It would just rattle incessantly until the car warmed up. It did this for the first time when it got cold. I was told by one forum member not to have the dealer look for it, because his dealer made it worse! So, I sat on it and realized the other day, hey! that damn noise stopped! I can't explain it, but it sounded like a blown speaker to me, too. But sound was still there when radio was off. BTW to answer the questions, I have crappy worthless SG1. Definitely shopping new speakers and will jump on the full iPod integration when it arrives. Who needs CDs?

sounds like one of two things. speakers or wiring??

null out the system, turn down the volume and slowly increase it and listen to what happens.

good luck
