Lemon Law

My car has had a problem with the drivers side air bag light coming on and this will be the third time taking it in. I was told that it takes 6 return trips on an electrical problem before it’s a lemon. I prefer that they do that now at 3 times and I original thought that was the case.

Anyone know different?

Thanks,

You need to follow the Lemon Laws on record for your state. Unfortunately, you just cannot ask for a new car anytime you want. Read the suppliment provided in your Owner's Manual.

Better than reading through the BS in the manual I’ll find a law firm that will research it for me.

Check with a local consumer rights attorney.

Why do you want a new car over a minor electrical issue? I mean, if they realy fix it, why isn't the car you bought acceptable? I know a newer car would be better to have, but assuming it's fixed, why is a new car needed?

If the law says you are entitled, I don't blame you, but you have considered that this goes into the DC cost of doing business, ie is reflected in car prices, haven't you?

I've done some lemon law work, always for the mfr (NOT DC) and am amazed at the guys who use the heck out of something, then begin demanding a whole new vehicle over a minor defect.

Just my bias showing, I guess.

EDIT: I don't know that your air bag problem is minor, and am not criticizing you, just commenting on cases I have had in the past.

My air bag red light has baffled my dealer to the point of frustration. They have literally replaced everything. Even down to the wiring harness and connectors. They feel they have the problem solved unfortunetly they were two visits past the lemmon law statue and the proceedings to a full refund have begun. Funny thing is they left the original repair order open and when I contacted Chrysler customer car after 4 months of aggravation and numerous repairs when they looked up my data it showed only one visit and why was I complaining!!! Each repair fix lasted less than one day after I drove away. Once I got in the car after they said it was fixed and the light was one when I started it up, so I just left it there in the same spot. Be lucky as I went one stretch between repairs the audible chime for that light comming on rang every 10 seconds or so. They only plus on the whole thing is thru Enterprise Car rental I drove all the Dodge/Chrysler they had to offer and determined I didn't like any of there vehicles.

Go indyCoder, Just got back from the Waffle House. Wondered why the heater wasn't working on the drivers side. Then I remembered that the dealer was just working on that side. Put my hand under the dash and it was obvious why it wasn't working.

They don't even write up all my problems when I go in. They are afraid I'm going to Lemon Law them.

Hoosier Daddy, What's that red mud slinger that I see in your Avatar. Is that you in that thing? I've kind of retired my late model super stock type car. I am hoping my health get's better so I can Mortgage the house again I keep it in my shop. Can't make myself sell it.

Sounds like me need to get togeather for some Lemon Aid.

I was told the air bags are a safety device and is handeled differently then a normal electrical problem. I would check your local laws and see what they say
