Smokers group: Ashtray illuminated or not?

I have the "smokers group" in my 300C but the ashtray in the center console is not illuminated. Neither the cigar lighter, nor the ash receiver. Which renders it completely useless if you drive in the dark, because you can't see it. After contacting the dealer about that, he got back to me with the succinct answer: that's by design. Can anyone who has the smokers group confirm, that it is indeed not lit?

No illumination. One of the cost cutting savings built out of the car.
My wife is the smoker and really misses an illuminated lighter. All our other cars had one. So I bought a little flashing strobe light that sits inside next to the lighter and can be turned on/off. At night when we are driving, we turn on the little flashing strobe light.

I think the picture shown is the " non smoker " as there is no lighter and the right side container is NOT an ash receiver. Does your car have the rear ash trays?
