Passenger Air Bag light comes on

Hi Guys,

I know this has been discussed before and I have read the previous threads. But, I have a weird problem with my passenger air bag light. In the morning or after the car has sat for awhile (7 hours plus) and its cold outside 40 degrees or below(the cabin is cold), I start the car and the passenger air bag light along with the red dash light are on. The lights stay on until the car is shut off and restarted again in conjunction with having a warm cabin. If I do not turn the heat on and the cabin stays cold, the light will not reset and remain on. Every morning, I start the car and the light is on again. I had this problem earlier in the winter and the dealer replaced the whole module (they said the sensor would not zero out). The problem went away for about 4 months and now is back. Anyone else in a cold weather climate have this problem? I wonder if it just has to be re-calibrated or if I got two bad modules. I wonder if the cold is causing a problem with the sensor and it cannot get a good reading until the cabin heats up? I'll be bringing it in to the dealer in a couple of weeks. I've just started a new job and cannot take the time off now. Anyone else seeing this?

As long as the battery doesn't get drained or disconnected, the stored fault codes will be in the PCM. Take it to the dealer and have them check the seat calibration first. Happened today at the shop on an '05 Jeep Cherokee. Those passenger side seat sensors are just very sensitive. I believe they need to learn from real world useage, just like the transmissions in most Chrysler vehicles. Hope this helps.

Ok, so I am still struggling with this issue. My dealer has been very cooperative in working with me on this. But the car has now been in a total of 5 times for this issue. Yesterday they replaced the air bag module and the occupant restraint module. They re-calibrated and sent me on my way. Well, this morning I get up and start the car. There it is again, the light is on along with the one in the dash. I go back to my dealer and leave the car running to show them that it is still a problem. The tech then goes out and runs the codes while the car is running. The service manager tells me they will have to contact Chrysler because they are all out of ideas. My question is about the lemon law. I would think that this would be classified a safety issue and thus be accpetable to use of the lemon law. Now trust me, I do not want to have to execute this. I don't want to deal with the hastle, but my car has 12500 miles and it will be a year in June that I've owned it. If I don't institue it by then, I believe I lose my rights. I guess I'll wait to see what Chrysler has to say, but this is really starting to get frusturating.

Take the dog or cat out of the seat.

Seriously though, I had the same problem from the time I pulled the car off the lot. They did the re caliber...and haven't had the issue since.

Good luck with everything.

Nope, I think pretty much that is the only thing they have not replaced. I am supposed to hear back from them tomorrow on the issue. I'll let you guys know what Chrysler says
