2007 300c Turned off 3x's today!!!

This all happen in one day! too much for me and the 300c!!!

I was in Downtown L.A. today (busy traffic) and my 2007 300c with 5K miles which i bought brand new two months ago stalled. I have no upgrades but HID Kit. My friend asked why i turned off my car in the middle of traffic and that's when i freaked out! My car turned OFF! No Power! in downtown L.A.!!! Let me tell you about the song of car-horns because that's all i got when that happend. I was making a right turn going about 20 miles when it stopped on me. I turned it back on and i kept driving and it happened again!!! (about 4 miles later). I was really freaking out because i almost got clipped by rear traffic. At that time i was in the middle lane doing about 35 mph. Thanks for the Hazard lights people knew i had car problems. I poped it back in on park, turned ignition key and turned car back on with no problems but (I WAS IN THE MIDDLE ON DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC ON STREET).

The car just shuts down with no stearing control on the wheel. After i decided i will follow up at a dealer in person they took 2 hours to come back and say "we can't find a reason or anything displaying that would cause this but we have updated your software and washed your car".

So i was confused and thought that the software story would do the job.
I got on the freeway which is next door to the dealership and right when i got on the freeway and merged to the lane my car turns off again!!!!!!! I was then doing about 48 mph! My first and only reaction was to look into my rear view mirror to see who's about to hit me and my friend in the car! Luckly, i was driving durring off peak hours and there was no one to hit me but there were many cars around. I pushed my hazard lights and let the car stear to the curve of the freeway and cars let me swing to the side with no power on my stearing or engine. I went right back to the dealer then the Tech drove the car with me with a laptop connected to the car to read diagnostics and everything turned out fine again and did'nt know what to say.

I was upset for my car to turn off on me three times the same day and risking my life on the freeway of being rear-ended for the car turning off. They had NO solution for me and never heard of my problem before and they really didn't seem to care because i was the one doing all the talking!

By surprised, i was told to take my car to the dealership i bought it from! i was shocked to hear this since i was at a cryrsler dealership. I asked him to help me and provide a rental car and he declined. He said i would have to pay for a rental although i stated that this problem is chrysler's problem. He stated that Chrysler would probably not reimburse his dealership for rental and i would be better off visiting the dealer i bought it from. So he allowed me to dive off to another dealership knowing the fact that i was having this problem and how it was dangerous on the freeway and streets. He seemed nice but then again i knew i was not getting fair treatment and it was validated when i visited the other dealership. I don't even work for chrysler and i would have not let someone drive off the lot with this problem! I was upset and didn't get support!

I finally arrived to my dealership (where i bought the car) and the sales manager helped me and he was upset and blown away that i had to risk my situation to drive there (about 8-10 miles away) and that the other dealership didnt help me and provide a free rental knowing the situation i had to investigate further.

The sales manager drove my car to service and provided me a rental. I talked with the service advisor there and he never heard of this problem. Which i'm very, very surprised since i've read alot here on this forum.

My car is now on day ONE on overnight! I'm not the type to wait and to be stroked and string around! I don't have patience for matters i don't create and affect me! The sales manager understood my temper with the matter of me purchasing this car from his dealership and then coming back for this issue. I will give them a day to call me back, otherwise i'm will have to escalte this. I placed myself and friend in jeopardy today THREE TIMES! and don't want to play the dealership and chrysler headquarter games of cost, parts and what's really happening. I love my car but i left Mercedez and never had problems with them. I'm just giving the benefit of the doubt. i like chrysler and the 300c model but so far, i'm just confused on how this could happen to me and many of us! What if i got hit today? how would i prove it? It would have been my word against there's and i'm not ready to drive off in that car again and risk my family and anyone else life in that car. Especially, when a dealer does'nt know what the heck is going on with the car in the first place!

Just to confirm from other threads i have read:
I had my gas tank right at about less than .25 of a tank but not at empty. (close to empty but my gas light was not on yet) and it turned off twice durring that time! I then put in 20 dollars which almost gives me half a tank of gas then drove off and everything was fine and dandy all the way to the first dealership. The third time was when i drove off the 1st dealership and got on the fwy. I understand there has been several owners having the same situation when they TOPP-OFF the gas tank but i have'nt topped off my tank because it's expensive i only use half a tank at a time. So it seems that my situation is different but the same outcome? I Don't know if i need a new gas tank, fuel management and carbon canister like others mentioned because i never fill up my gas tank anyway to get the problems other owners have been experiencing.

I'm just upset that so far i have been getting mixed emotions from so far one dealership, the run around and perhaps a second dealership which i will find out tomorrow. Time will tell but i don't allow too much time to pass because then i'm stuck with a payment and end up driving a rental i don't want!

Any feedback, help suggestions is appreciated!

This happened to me in my 96 Chevy Impala SS twice, granted this car is pretty old, it had absolutely no problems. Was it raining when you were driving? When it happened to me there was a small opening to my headlights, and some rain touched the bulb, blew the bulb, then shorted my entire electrical system and I lost the brakes and steering. When I pulled over, the car turned on fine. Then it happened several minutes later on small but very busy road in Washington D.C. and I almost smashed into an oncoming car. Very scary stuff.

It was nice and sunny today in Los Angeles, no rain here. The Tech inspected the headlights, wires and grounded wires and everything was factory upkept. I have a problem here.

it happened to me too today. 4x thought. while waiting for lights, and making left and right turns. almost got clipped twice. took it to the dealer and left it over night promised to get a call by 2pm. ill be waiting . such a beautiful car such a disaapoointment. i love my 300c but hate the fact that i havent even had it for a year and i already tooken it in 3x. bad brakes at 3000 miles heads up buddy. scratching and failing. sure theyll replace them since its still less than 36000 miles but at every 3000 having to do this its ridiculous. car turns off when it wants and stops when it wants to too. . chrysler ur lagging it on this one. step it up. the only thing that keeps me a little relaxed is that 300s all over the place this fix cant be that bad. hope we hear good news tomorrow keep me posted dude.

Freaky stuff. Car turning off by itself.

Just shows Chrysler hasn't yet figured out fail safe technology.

Really pisses me off cause it has happened to several others. You would think they would have issued a recall by now. How convenient for Chrysler no trouble codes appear for a stalled engine. So when there is a fatal accident caused by car turning off by itself there is no documented proof/reason.

I wonder if the black box would record the stalling engine in the event of an accident?

.

Just a thought......try using your other ignition key.

If the key fob transponder isn't sending the correct data the car will shut off.

I'm not sure if the data is checked continually or only at start-up......so this may be a moot point.

I came back from the dealer today and the service advisor stated that there were no false codes. They hooked it up to the star device and everything checked out fine "for some weird reason". So, he then advise me that the mechanic took it out for a spin and nothing. So i aggresively asked what the heck is going to happen next and who is going to fix it? His rebuttal was that the mechanic would have to take my car to his home (18 miles away) to see if it turns off on him going home or coming to work tomorrow. The advisor asked me if it were okay for him to take my car so that he had more driving time since they can't find the problem to solve my car issue of turning off.

I asked for GOD at that dealership and this smart-butt guy comes "service manager" and i told him that i needed SERVICE and want my car fixed! I said that i'm driving a ford focus that is less than stock and i'm stuck with still making my 300c payment for an employee to take to his house? He then rebutal with: "so my service advisor is not servicing you?" I almost blew up from there for his smart remark but i kept my cool and told him that i will authorize them to have their mechanic take my car home upon liability conditons on them for scratches, etc...

He said if it doesn't turn off on the mechanic while driving then they would have to call Chrysler Engineering which i was told by someone else they already did. So tick tock on the run around time! i'm giving them until tomorrow and starting to look for a lemon attorney and have him/her call Chrysler District Manager about the poor service i'm getting with very minimal feedback that i can give myself!

I'll keep posted! (Please remember i was in the FWY when this happen so i don't want people to think i'm just nagging too much. It's very dangerous!)

Cool shut off

Holy Molly , I've had my dash replaced , rotors need replacing every 20,000k due to BAD rotors but I'm paying for them. Rear seat leather replaced , transfer case (AWD) repaired three times . Wipers still going on without rain when making turns . Sometimes the heated seat switch refuses to go on after several pushes , then decides when it feels I need my ass heated . My overhead storage sunglass case has decided to break on me for no reason and the dealer says I have to buy a whole new consol unit ! Rear sensors failed on numerous occasions . Dash rattles and I can't be bothered anymore trying to fix it . Some of my plastic joints on the doors have now misalighned and it sticks out . Well at least my car hasn't shut off yet , but my lease ends 2009 so what should I do , keep the car or look elsewhere ?
