Exhaust drone..

So I took my SRT into the dealer for another flush of the radiator and had another problem.

I'm going to try to describe it the best I can so hopefully someone can identify this as the dealer I dont' think is able. When driving and the car hits third, sometimes it is a little bogged down in the gear. When I accelerate a bit when it's low in the gear I'll hear almost a clanking sound. I've heard this in other cars I've owned and even rentals also. I don't accelerate enough for the car to downshift to second, just hard enough so the car has to work it's way up to the top of the third to shift to fourth.

The dealer called this exhaust drone. Can anybody verify that this is the definition of exhaust drone?

well to me exhaust drone is an annoying resonance ( aka "drone") at a certain steady speed that goes away if you speed up or slow down a little. Depending on the pitch of the sound, it can be so bad that you simply cannot drive at that particular Speed / RPM. On my previous T-Bird SC with aftermarket exhaust, I could NOT drive it at 75 mph in overdrive.... but it was fine at 73 or 77....

Your issue doesn't sound like "drone" to me; do you have stock exhaust? Usually exhaust drone is associated with aftermarket systems. The O.E. manufacturers take great pains and spend a LOT of money and R&D to make sure there is no drone or resonance at any speed. I know that my 5.7"C" and my dad's SRT8 (both with stock exhaust) are completely drone-free.

does it sound like a small metalic rattle
is it at low speeds in the city
mine seems to do this when it is a low speeds and I touch the
gas slightly it will make a small metalic rattle from the rear or middle
might be a heat shield or something like that
