I believe the sound is coming from the speakers.
I tried different recordings and couldn't pick up the ticking until I placed the camera over the driver side speaker.
I get it too, sounds like something curling up into the fetal position in the dash at times. I think our cars are just possessed.

I suspect it's the cool-down tick. I've never had a vehicle NOT make that sound.

It is not engine related. It is easy to produce the ticking when the car is cold.

In a quit garage, close the car door, turn the key on (do not start) to get the electrical juices flowing, and turn the key off. The ticking can then be heard. Open car door and ticking will stop.

Exactly. I think it might be something related to our 05 300c's Joey since no one else knows what we are talking about or just havnt noticed it yet. I have an early build, how about yourself?

Mine was built August 2004. You might be on to something about the model year. I never hear it unless it is dead silent. The only time I usually hear it is when I am in my closed garage, windows closed, while programing flashpaq.

I heard it today in my 07. I turned the engine off, then the lights, pulled the key, and there it was. As if someone is quietly tapping a finger somewhere inside the dash. I thought it might be the accessory timer, so I quickly opened and closed the door. Then there was a quiet electric motor sound for a second, then quiet. Beats me what it is, but I think it has to do with whatever keeps power to accessories until the door is opened.
