Electronic Throttle Control issue

Well I picked up my 2007 300C on Tuesday, and here it is Friday and I already need dealer service.

Came home from work this evening and everything was fine. About 30 minutes after I got home from work, the missus and I got in the car to head to dinner and a movie. Started her up (the car, not my wife) and it was idling horribly rough at about 1500 rpms. Check engine light was on, the ETC light was flashing, and the gas pedal was dead - I could push it to the floor and nothing happened.

Pulled out the manual and it said that if the ETC light was flashing, immediate service is necessary and rough idle may be experienced.

So my wife and I took her Jeep out for the evening. Started the 300 when we got home a few hours later, and she started right up and seemed to run fine, but the check engine light was still on (although the ETC light was not).

Obviously I will be going to the dealer first thing in the morning, and it's under warranty so its not a terribly big deal, but I was just curious if anyone had ever heard of these symptoms and if it's a fairly straightford fix or should I prepare for the dealer to give me a rental car for a few days.

Also, ever since I picked it up I've noticed that the first half inch or so of throttle was "dead". I travel a lot and rent an awful lot of cars for work, and this was the most that I've had to push down on any gas pedal before it started to move. Is this normal for the 300, or could this be indicative of something going sideways on the ETC?

Jason

Update on this:

Planned on taking 'er into the dealership this morning, but when I started it up, she was doing it again. Rough idle @ 1500 rpm, dead gas pedal, check engine light on, and flashing ETC light (red lightning bolt).

So I had to have it towed to the dealership. Of course, wouldn't you know it, it started up and ran just fine for the tow truck driver and he was able to drive it right up onto the flatbed.

Side note, after we loaded it on the flatbed, I noticed a pool of tranny fluid on the driveway. I would have been worried had it not been for this forum. I immediately knew what it was and figured the dealer would too.

It ran fine for the dealer but they did say that they flashed the computer with a newer version (or something like that) and fixed some other codes that were still in the computer.

It's running fine now and there was no definitive answer as to what was wrong, so I guess time will tell. Hopefully upgrading the computer did the trick.

sounds like the ETC was not calibrated, or was losing it's calibration..

there is a precedure in the Star Scan to reset the ETC and recalibrate it, and the crankshaft sensors.

if the PCM gets flashed or unplugged, these 2 reset procedures "may" be required..

I have personally done it for 2 forum members that have had dead batteries for extended length of time, causing the PCM to need a full reset..

At approx. 42K miles I had the the red lightning bolt come on steady, along with the MIL, a couple of months ago. Engine stalled, ran like crap. Finally it started and ran in the limp mode until I got home (28 miles). I pulled the DTC's: ETC and MAP problems.
The car spent 3 days at the stealership. First they replaced the gas pedal assembly (pedal height adjuster and all!). They had to order the assembly. That didn't completely solve the problem so a replacement MAP sensor was installed. All has been fine since. Cost = $401.

Well the problem came back, so whatever the dealer did, didn't fix it. Took the car into the dealership last night and now I'm driving a PT Cruiser rental

Just talked to the dealer. They've been working on it all day and still can't figure out what the problem is

Looks like I'll be in the PT Cruiser for at least another day

Another day without my car, and since tomorrow is New Years it will be at least Friday, at best, before I get it back. That will be 5 days in the dealership for service on 10 total days of ownership. Not exactly what I had in mind.
