Rattle/Thumping noise when going over bumps

I own a 2008 chrysler 300 with 13000 miles on it now that i bought brand new. Lately whenever i go over 1 or 2 bumps in the road i can hear a loose rattle/thumping sound underneath the car. Ive looked under the car myself plenty of times and everything looks to be fine. I am very fond of my car almost to the point of loving a non living thing but this sound is starting to drive me insane. Could mr. Incredible or someone with expertise please help me

Welcome to the clunking front end suspension club!

We number in the thousands trying to solve this issue. Many parts and upgraded replacements that many have tried but have worked to no avail.

I have 3 more parts in the front that could be the culprit. Everything else I have replaced or upgraded with new parts.

The saga continues.....

my "C" suffers from that too,I'm sure its my sway bar bushes(anti roll bar to us,lol)I havent had time to remove the bar to eliminate it and I'm waiting for some pedders bushes to arrive.I'm sure because I have checked every other bush, link, track control arms, tie rods, rack, etc.,and there is no play in any of them.As soon as my new bushes arrive and I've fitted them I shall report back with my findings

Check (or have the dealer check, should still be under warranty) the tie rods. They're a big problem with these cars. I just had mine replaced at 45,000 miles. I would notice a kind of clunking when I would back out of my driveway. I don't notice it now. And the steering feels tighter while driving as well. Good luck.

the first place i would start would be with sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, tie rods. If it's not those it could be a host of other things. Here is a really good detailed picture to give you an idea of all the parts down there and their names: (I didn't make it, so i apologize to the member who did, im not trying to steal your thunder!)

My sway bar bushings are the ugraded Hotchkis ones (to go with my Hotchkis sways) I had installed like 2 months ago. I have BWoody end links (beefy). My steering rack was replaced in May including tie rods. I have SRT tension struts installed.

Last could be the UCA and LCA, balljoints and my Eibach shocks......

Uuugghhhhhh...

I changed my bushings and the lower control arm and the clunking was gone.
For 2 freakin' days. Now it's back and i have no idea what to do.
The dealer wants $100 just to take a look at it and says that it would cost me at leat $1000 to get it fixed.
Which is weird since he doesn't know whats wrong.
I have looked through every part and can not fin anything wrong.
I took everything apart at checked it and it's all ok.

When is Chrysler going to take this serious and admit that this is not normal.

I really love my car but i have noticed that the quality is not what one would expect from a car this "modern"

I have a 2005 Chrysler 300 with approx 135,000 KM or 80,000 miles. I have had the clunking front end as well for quite some time. Have replaced many parts already, sway bay links torsion bar bushings, front wheel bearing, tierod ends and still have the clunk that sounds like the front end is falling off, whenever I hit a bump. Next step will probably be struts and coil springs. I have also noticed that my front end is lower by almost two inches since I bought the car, thus making weak front springs an issue. Have also noticed that a lot of the 300's seem to be lower in front. I think this probably puts extra strain on other front end parts causing them ro wear out faster and perhaps causing the clunking noises. I like the car (great on the highway) but replacing front end parts continually is not my idea of a great car. I suggest all you guys check the space between the top of the tire to the bottom of the wheel well and see if you feel that there is not as much space as when the car was new. Also, just have a look at other 300's when time permits and see if you can spot a difference in this spacing. BTW, mine went from 4 3/4" to 3 1/4 " LMK if you get any feedback on this please. Should be a Chrysler recall as far as I'm concerned. Thanks, Dave
