Advice on valve/lifter problem, causing misfire

Hi,

Any advice appreciated... I'm trying to help a friend who's short on cash with her 2006 300C with the 5.7 hemi.

The car only has 55K miles on it.

It has an intermittend but fairly bad misfire on cylinder #1 (code 301). A new coil pack and plugs didn't help, and there don't seem to be any obvious vaccum leaks.

She brought it to a friend's shop that took off the valve cover and turned it over, and said one of the valves on #1 does not always actuate.

It seems unlikely the cam lobe is gone, so if they'r correct it seems like the lifter is not maintaining sufficient pressure, or the valve is sticking.

I'm hoping to avoid pulling the motor apart, either by learning it's some other known problem, or getting the dealership to do it for free

Anyone have similar problems?

Thanks

I've not had probs with my hemi but GM cars in the UK suffer from sticking valves and the first thing I do is put an oil additive in and let the engine get hot, switch it off,let it cool down for say 1/2 hour then start it up and that normally cures it if it doesnt cure it do a compression test on the cylinders and see what figures you get

If you've isolated it down to a specific valve it's an easy fix compared to ripping the entire block apart. Valvetrain work is quite easy and mostly inexpensive since the block can remain in the car. I had a cylinder problem on my old '70 Mustang that was narrowed down to a bent pushrod causing the intake valve to stick open. It was easily identified by the backfiring coming out of my carb!
