stearing wheel buttons

I have had problems with my buttons cracking. Please everyone reading this that have them go out look really good and see if yours are cracking as well.
This will be my second set relaced under warranty. I have a fealling that it is due to heat and plastics issue.
It's starts as a hairline crack and gets more noticeable over time. I have a 2006 model and got it in april of this year.
I have looked at a new one on showroom floor and it has it also and does not have more than 15 miles on it.

thanks

I HAVE WAITED A YEAR TO SEE THIS POST ON THIS FORUM. ALL THE 05's I SAW HAD CRACKED BUTTONS. THE PAINT WAS CLEARLY CRACKED. MY 06 SRT 8 VOLUME BUTTON IS NOW SHOWING A HAIRLINE CRACK AT THE TOP GOING LEFT TO RIGHT. THE OTHERS SEEM FINE, BUT I AM SURE IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. HOW HARD IS IT FOR THE DEALER TO REPLACE? DID THEY SCRATCH THE WHEEL AT ALL REPLACING THE BUTTONS?

Hey Johnny it does not take 15 min to replace the buttons. I guess they just pop of easy and no they did not scatch it in any way. I took pic before just in case we had problems with that. The crack can actually be felt on the surface and not a paint crack. They might have a incompatiblity with the paint and plastic that over time might cause the crack though. My dealer is going to call Chrysler to make them aware or to see if they know anything about that. they also what to know before they order another set that they might not be working on another fix to this through the manufacturer.

good luck Johnny

Mine are cracking too! I thank you too for bringing this up, I've been too lazy to take pics!

I'm planning on mentioning this at my next visit to the dealership. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

From what I have seen and heard, this issue is quite common. I had to replace mine on my 05 300C and even the replacements developed some cracks.

Cracks here, too. I have seen A LOT of them this way. I was actually surprised when my '05 came in last October that there were no cracks at the time. Other brand new cars I'd seen on the lots had cracks. I will wait for mine to get worse before replacing.

Just took a look at mine...had the car since Nov. with lots of driving around and countless station/option changes using the buttons. They look fine.

Noticed them over the weekend while cleaning. Got my car on June 18. Good to know is not just my car. Will replace when I get a chance.

Unhappy

I was told by my service manager that he was told by chrysler that this problem is not an issue. Nobody must be going in and complaining of the cracked buttons. I know this is an issue and so does he. I am on my second set and those are also cracked. What I need everyone that reads this, go out look at you switches and if you have this problem please call into your service manager and get them replaced under warranty. I have seen this problem on a new car so I know this is an issue. Chrysler does not see this if you don't take the time to let them know. This is the only way we can make the manufacturer of this button to make it better.
