Rough start

I have a strange problem with my 300C.

When I turn the ignition key, if the engine fires the first turn, it is very smooth. But occasionally, if I don't hold the igntion key long enough, the engine doesn't start. Then, after having to return the key back to off, and then restarting, the engine always starts with a clunking sound, similar to a deisel engine makes.

Not a big problem, and probably nothing to worry about. Anyone else have this?

Yes, I think mine does what you are describing. On the rare occassion that it doesn't start on the first turn of the key (usually because I release it too soon), it is almost as if the engine starts IMMEDIATELY when the starter is re-engaged with what seems like nearly zero crank time and this makes a sort of strange (well different) sound.

The call it "dieseling" as that's what it sounds like and it is because of excess gas in the combustion chambers. I think this HEMI takes a lot of gas a startup and if the initial throw doesn't turn it over, it adds more gas into the chamber on the second go 'round. Causeing the dieseling sound. Mine does it too. I don't think it is a "Problem" per se, but more of a characteristic.
